To me, while agreement is enough for a thanks, simple disagreement isn't enough for a groan. To me a groan is more like "what a <insert pejorative, e.g. illogical, low, despicable, etc, even stupid> thought/post". Generally, the ratio of thanks:groan seems to be something like 20:1, both given and received, which indicates to me that most people see it similarly.
Does that mean we are a very positive community?

Jeez, Louise... what in the world do you think the groan button is for, then?

And really, at the end of the day, it is just a button on a (mostly) anonymous internet forum. If you really get so upset over a button on the EF, then you probably should rethink how you spend your time...

OTOH, adjust your definitions a bit and problem solved.

And indeed, if that‘s what happened here it would be all fine and good. But more often than not people are berated, groaned, responded to flippantly with snide comments or with rambling discourse that is unintelligible. I believe you are over simplifying and brushing off disagreements. I also expect that many will disagree with me. So be it. By the same token I don‘t believe disagreement should result in groaning. How is that civil?

That was not a point of view but a lie that you agreed with. The problem is, you’re a mod and your thanks for this kind of behavior triggers others to continue this inappropriate behavior, which all goes against the forum guidelines.
Care to explain your lie (your own choice of words) about my purported misogyny?

You may see yourself as thus but other posters may see you differently, based on your history.
Care to explain how exactly your repeated drive-by groans are any help?
IIRC they're strongly discouraged by the forum rules.

All I’m saying is that you accused me of something I didn’t say.
Actually you keep calling me a liar with abandon, and as usual you pull that nonsense out of your arse. Then when you get called out you're suddenly the personified innocence and play the victim card, simply because you're an innocent wommin who can never be the aggressor, by definition.

A few pages ago on this thread I learnt that woke means I can identify myself as something and the world has to pay me respect and go along seeing me as what ever I identified myself as.

UrsMax, I wanted to ask you if you see feminists/feminism as something bad in general, or outdated.. or it is just this constant-victimization glam-pop feminism that gets on your nerves ?

like , you talk to a woman, you want to explain something and then, she'd be "whaaat? stop with your mansplaining! it's disrespectful, offensiiiveee" )

Or should I say, do you see feminists more or less (all the same) or not?

Nobody, I also have a different page count but the same amount of posts as you mentioned. It is the way your setting works, posts per page.

You lot can continue your pointless bickering until the cows come home but I think you should be warned. A couple of posts in this thread have sadly been identified as offensive by the Revolutionary Council of Mildly Tolerant Grammar Nazis (da Svozz section) and necessary counter measures deemed unavoidable. The RCMTGN has decided to refrain from groaning the unpleasant posts by repeat offenders. Instead, the sanctioned posters will be allowed a breath of fresh air while they are lead outside and…

In other news, the new Wesley Snipes Blockbuster "Goats on a tram" has opened with rave reviews!

The occasional groan is ok, but you have chosen to groan me 5 or 6 times in this thread. I t hink that‘s aggressive bullshit. Disagreement is something else entirely.

They aren't positive, nor are they negative. They are neutral. What they are being used for determines their charge. Plenty use them to uplift (abusive/bullying/spiteful/inflammatory/aggressive) conduct. Plenty use them solely for their favourite posters, irrespective of what the poster posted.

It's 1 reason why I would do away with them, and groans and rep.
Sorry, thanks = positive; groan is negative. How they are used is up to the poster’s discretion. Not all of us are as wise and balanced as you seem to see yourself.

How about we table chliinimuus’ proposal as follows:
  1. Relabel “thanks” as big cheery smile and “groan” as nearly neutral disagreement?
  2. Shred the existing stuff as she suggests
  3. Stop posting altogether

Yeah but then .... there are all these positive groans. People groan when they get a really good massage, when they come into a heated room from the freezing cold, when they stretch after having been camped into a MiniCooper for hours, when ..... oh use your own imagination

Green pebbles are friendly wavings "good to see you around". Red pebbles are "I wanna make sure you notice that I can't stop thinking about you". (Poor sods)

It is all a matter of perspective. Or - to formulate it woke - the way you define things for yourself.

I admit, I'm getting into this woke thing. It's a great source of amusement as well as a total "Gesprächskiller" - no idea what the word in English would be for that.

Re: Deleting My Account

So maybe you will take my point... I disagree with almost everything you have said on the last few pages of this thread. Now if I took the time to give you "Reds" with a message, that is aggressive BS. This is just publicly expressing disagreement and where I stand. Following pretty standard fora norms...

We could even enhance it with a cognitive mechanism which make you ignore groans by user accounts on the internet of people you don't know. We could call it "behaving like an adult".

Hmmm, I only know three people on EF. And they never groan at me. (They probably don't dare as they know me too )

If at all it should be the other way around. I'm really not bothered by groans of people I don't know. I would deeply care about those by people I do know.
(Naaa, I wouldn't but it sounded good. And I'd probably send them a signal-message asking what the heck. Or not as the last one I sent out to an EF-member 18 days ago has still not even been read).

Maybe a feature to ignore groans all together (like members). What a sweet place EF would suddenly look like.

It's interesting that two mods openly approve of this type of behaviour.

Looks a bit like they are egging on a user to make being on the forum a less pleasant experience. But I guess that is just me being a leftist SJW, right?

By the way, "woke" is not a term for white people to use, it was appropriated like a heck of a lot of other stuff I see the self-proclaimed "rational thinkers" bandying about.

Sometimes mods get bored with individual posters, I think it happened to you a long long time ago when the forum was so much nicer & friendlier than it is today

I don’t like groaning, i sometimes do it as a reaction. The other fora I participate in do not groan people for disagreements. So not in my online world.

@fduvall- I don‘t agree with your assessments and I pretty much disagree with everything you post, I don‘t feel like groaning you continually. Ususally I have you on ignore.

@fmf and @mc by liking ato‘s post it seems that you are encouraging people to aggravate me. You want me to become agitated. For amusement- or so I leave ?

@ato wishing to get a rise out of me - how is that different from bullying?

I‘m going to ignore this thread. It‘s a shame… because there are a lot of decent people here. And some really annoying shits.

I think what it is, you have complained about MC & myself multiple times in the thread, you have threatened to delete a couple of times in this thread & even threatened not to post anymore in this thread.

I clearly stared I had no intention of offending you & apologised if I had.
At this point I am finding the whole charade amusing.
