So far as I remember in the past before people were banned it was claimed there was discussion and agreement in the mod zone, I do not know if they still do that...
That was even stated as a fact by a user recently, probably in this thread.

In your edit you asked how to see the rep scores
https://www.englishforum.ch/xtra/rep_standings.html
oooooh,

It makes me feel old to see how many people around the top of that list have either left us long ago or even died.

Re: Deleting My Account

I think that the whole "rep" thing here is a bit ridiculous, really. The problem with a system like that is that some people will begin acting in accordance with their desire to increase their "rep," which really means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

  • Equilibrium restored? FMF is doing a damn good job! He has truly surprised me.
  • People like V__, TC, Me, Amogles etc are sticking up for Biden lovers and asking for the thread NOT to be locked. Even though it was same old. I guess Biden is just too boring to talk about.
  • Rufus's ban temporary, not permanent. I personally would unban her. Even though she can get a bit lippy
I can go on, but I have to go and do some fitness. Relax, the angel of free speech (TTYL) has got everyone's back
I agree about FMF (so far at least) and appreciate that he's been trying to be more objective in his approach with other members here, etc. and just trying to maintain a more civil environment here in general. I guess that's why this whole thing recently with LiB, etc. has felt like ten steps backward.

Regarding your second *, I guess I haven't noticed that but probably wasn't paying close enough attention to it, but kudos if that's the case. I don't think Biden is so much boring as he is just focused on the job rather than the attention it can bring. I have respect for people who don't feel the need to always 'be in the spotlight,' I guess.

With RufusB's temporary ban, I would like to know the exact reason / explanation for why she was banned. All I saw was her sticking up for herself after a mod attempted to personally insult her character.

No, the post is there. It was in the petition to re-open the thread - thread.
And just to put it into perspective about the thread not being a one man show, out of 522 posts, marton had 135 posts, the next person was amogles with 45 posts and then Urs Max with 26 posts. . . do you get it now?
Okay, but like I said... That's certainly not a "one-man show," then.

Marton was not the only member contributing to that thread. And if you go back to it, you can see other members commenting and contributing. There are many threads on the EF where one member posts more than the others. So that itself is not really a valid justification for closing a thread.

If one member out of 51, posts over 25% of the 522 posts, then it certainly is a one-man show.

Every time I opened that thread it was one link post from Marton

A more interesting thread would be a Jimmy Carter post presidency thread about his peanut farm

Then what does the other roughly 75% (or so) equate to?

So if a thread consists of one person making roughly 25% of the posts, it should be automatically closed? ... Regardless of whether or not that other 75% of posters in that thread want it to remain open?

That's your subjective perception.

My subjective perception is that I appreciated Marton's posts because they helped keep me up-to-date on current events.

Okay. So this means that people on the EF are no longer allowed to post anything political in political threads because there are other sources for political news? Or is it only if that person's posts make up roughly 25% or more of the posts in that thread?

I'm trying to understand the rules.

Treat people and discussions respectfully and with fairness and you can expect the same respect and fairness back.

Provided by The Hill by Marton: Jimmy Carter likely killed by Trump's suggestion on using peanut butter for jelly sandwiches.

This one's for LIB:

I'm not a fan of marton and his/her posts in general. I would have preferred that you would have given RufusB a permanent ban for his/her constant whininess.

However LIB, I agree with Chuff's assessment somewhere upthread here. Some people might find your schtick cute. I find it annoying and can't really remember anything worthwhile that you have added over the years other than something worth a little chuckle. I think that you are a sh!t mod and should stop being a clown and just recuse yourself of your mod duties.

Not at all. I would prefer very little moderation but if you're going to be a mod, don't be a dick about it.

Regarding banning, it's easy enough to ignore the annoying posters (myself included).

I'm not being a jerk. As I said, I'm trying to understand the rules.

LiB said that he closed that thread because one poster had made roughly 25% of the posts in it and then said that it's also because there are other, alternative sources of political news and provided a link as an example.

Therefore, I think it's a pretty logical conclusion on my part that there must be a rule somewhere here (written or unwritten) that if someone makes more than 25% of the posts in a thread that it should be closed. Or does that only pertain to political threads?

Indeed... "Treat people and discussions respectfully and with fairness and you can expect the same respect and fairness back." But clearly some people think it's perfectly fine for someone to insult someone's character and then when that person defends themselves against it, that's not okay and they deserve to be temporarily banned for it. I think there is a term for that. It's called "entitlement."

But it would be interesting to know what some members here would think if, for example, there was a Biden thread in which (just as an example), V_ was posting some negative comments about Biden (e.g. the continuous comments I see here regarding him having some form of dementia) and then for a pro-Biden mod to suddenly come in and close the thread and then claim that it was only because V_ had made up roughly 25% of the posts in that thread.

People left of center here were recently accused of not being tolerant toward others or other view points on the EF. I think that should apply to people on all sides of the spectrum.

As a matter of fact, there is very little moderation going on, compared to a few years back at least.
Either way, you should look at both sides of the coin before calling someone a dick. . .especially, when you share opinions with reincarnated members who apart from shooting the breeze and selling their trinkets, don't contribute anything of subtance.
