As a matter of fact, there is very little moderation going on, compared to a few years back at least.
Either way, you should look at both sides of the coin before calling someone a dick. . .especially, when you share opinions with reincarnated members who apart from shooting the breeze and selling their trinkets, don't contribute anything of subtance.
I agree. The modding of the past month or two has been stellar.

It's just the way you waltz back into here every couple months trying to be the EF rescue mod; kind of annoying to be honest.

I'd prefer it if you just popped in every couple of months to contribute nonsense like the rest of us.

Re: Deleting My Account

I think Pancakes has a reasonable request, and it's a continuation of Rufus' request. Rufus wanted to know if moderation was subjective, rather than through collective agreement. This was the response from the mod:
"Absolutely not but I don't think you're in the capacity to understand it either way"

If we set aside the unfortunate degrading remark from the mod for a moment, the answer vaguely alludes to it being through collective agreement.

Since the mod mentions further-up in the thread, that they didn't let any other mod know they'd decided to close the thread, the question naturally arises if there is a document or post that they checked (containing some sort of mod's code or rules), that enabled the mod to autonomously determine there was a reason to close the thread, and to act accordingly.

It's called The Hill.
I’ve just researched „The Hill“ and found that despite its left-leaning, it’s been rated as unbiased.

https://www.google.ch/amp/s/mediabia...-hill/%3famp=1

Also, my pick-up/flag-waving equates Trump supporter comment has been based on observation and feedback from other Americans during my stay here. After 9/11, a flag brought people together. Now, depending on how the flag is being displayed, it’s divisive. Trumpsters are still alive and well in the US.

FMF and others didn’t approve the mod style of the two former mods but to be honest, Lib, your current mod behavior of banning and closing threads clearly demonstrates it is political leaning and driven by a subjective nature. Your mod decisions are clearly making this forum right-leaning. If you can’t mod in an unbiased fashion, stay off the political threads.

To FMF’s credit, he has reached out to posters to stay despite disagreement in views. Many of the “left-leaning” posters have a long history of offering invaluable advice and contributions on EF, which is really what EF is all about. If you start banning these posters and closing political threads simply due to subjective decisions, EF’s integrity will continue to dwindle and just become some cheap sh&t show.

Greetings from the US, where Covid is still rampant, anti-vaxxers abundant, schools are finally opening, housing prices are rising, homelessness is rising and low-paying jobs are not being filled. Despite of the turmoil, strangers are friendly and open; more so than in Switzerland.

Politically, After Trump’s scandal a day, Biden’s Presidency is boring and non-eventful, allowing the country to do some much-needed healing.

I wasn't implying that. The remark was not intended to be personal. I apologize if offence was taken.

LiB said that he closed that thread because one poster had made roughly 25% of the posts in it and then said that it's also because there are other, alternative sources of political news and provided a link as an example.

Therefore, I think it's a pretty logical conclusion on my part that there must be a rule somewhere here (written or unwritten) that if someone makes more than 25% of the posts in a thread that it should be closed. Or does that only pertain to political threads?
I think that links and sources should best be used to underpin statements and positions in discussions, or provide a basis for further discussion.

Just posting a tsunami of links with little to zero discussion value or even attempts to start any discussion is not contributing to any form of discussion culture.

I think this is true regardless of the topic of discussion or who posts the material.

I would say a good discussion is one where we can get a lot of to and fro and development of ideas and challenging of those ideas from the same starting points.

An annoying discussion is one where any attempt at discussion is drowned out by new links of questionable value or relevance flattening everything else.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with "The Hill".

But if we would want to read it on daily basis and exclusively we could all do this ourselves.
On a Forum like EF I expect variety, different opinions ("you couldn't make this up" as the only regular comment is not an opinion).

Maybe marton gets paid for this. Then we could think about putting it under "commercial"?

edit: Actually, amogles beat me to it.

Provided by The Hill by Marton: Jimmy Carter likely killed by Trump's suggestion on using peanut butter for jelly sandwiches.
When will a certain populace recognize that the combination of peanut butter and “jelly” (WTF?) as sandwich spreads is not only a culinary crime but has also led to an incomparable decline in moral fibre and loss of world domination?

Thanks.

I suppose much of it just comes down to subjective perception. One person's "questionable link" may be another person's valid source, I guess. It does seem like people often instinctively try to negate the source of information that they do not agree with, as a means to try to negate the information itself.

To be honest, Marton's Trump posts just came off to me as though he was extremely political-minded and was a bit infatuated with the "Trump phenomenon." But Trump is and has been extremely controversial, I guess. It's like one half hates him and the other half loves him. Maybe it was the same way with Obama, I don't know.

I'm just glad that things have quieted down a bit because, for myself at least, the past few years of American politics has left me feeling like I need one of those "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" pills.

You ain't got a clue, mate! Actually there is supposed to be some cheese on that too, preferably jonge kaas (not Gouda, the one you find in every Dutch fridge. And not oude, too strong in this combination).
Never lived in the Netherlands?

If I had any bread in the house, I'd make me one now. Darn you guys for setting my mind on it.

But it would be interesting to know what some members here would think if, for example, there was a Biden thread in which (just as an example), V_ was posting some negative comments about Biden (e.g. the continuous comments I see here regarding him having some form of dementia) and then for a pro-Biden mod to suddenly come in and close the thread and then claim that it was only because V_ had made up roughly 25% of the posts in that thread.
3Wishes did pretty much that.

Waiting for her to undelete them so people can decide for themselves.
