I find Jim's reaction exaggerated and overly dramatic. On the other hand, let's not pretend that Tom's statement was anywhere close to appropriate by splitting hairs over what "Nazi" and "German" means.

Re: Deleting My Account

Chuff really?? The other day I was talking about covid measures with a german-dutch guy.. and he said "they're all nazis" I was like "yeah but the dutch .." he said , they're nazis too!

..and this has been said in that informal way when you want to describe a certain organsied behaviour. I've called like that and also the ward "fascho" some memebers of my family even my favorite pet.

Tom's comment was really stupid because the OP wasnt even talking about germany or anything like that.. and it did look like he either wanted to create a fight or was so bored that only those 4 words came to his head and he wanted to type them and click -post-

Wish he explains what was the point of that comment, why he even bothered to type that... auhhh

Sometimes discussions can get heated and we get too invested and sometimes our fingers type faster than our brains can keep up.

Many of the recent spats have been caused by

1) people saying something that is obviously stupid or offensive
2) it being pointed out to them
3) their pride getting the better of them and them then digging the hole deeper rather than simply admitting, yeah, I shouldn't have said that.

There is no shame in taking back your words.

Tom posts to be provocative, I think pretty much everyone knows that.

He often crosses the line though and some of his posts are unacceptable. I didn’t see the post in question so can’t comment on that one specifically.

Re: Deleting My Account

Iíve got to admit these days the forum has become more about gossip that being helpful. And of the genuine questions which do get asked have been asked several times before so you get the standard reply of search the forum you lazy ******.

Sad but true

Itís nice though to see the older members come out and chime in though.

I have a feeling that Jim's emotions were amplified at the time he created this thread, due to being pissed off (or whatever), so that's probably the reason why it comes off as being exaggerated or overly dramatic. Maybe many or most of us can get that way when we're upset about something.

Anyways... wherever Jim is today, I hope he's feeling at peace and is having a nice Saturday. I'm not saying this as a deliberate attempt to put down this forum, but it really is amazing how much more at peace you feel once you step away from the EF (or wherever) long enough for it no longer have the ability to dictate your mood or emotions.

We can all agree on "It was better before" I mean everything even nutella or coca-cola, or those fragrant chewing gums from the 80ties

The thing is , it's all about your perception..So people who joined the forum 10y ago were younger, they were excited about certain things, great enthusiasm about everything..And of course many years after you get fed up with the same thing then some newcomers with their same questions answered million times, then some new people who think they know better etc etc.. You yourself you're not the same person as 10y ago how come a forum should be. ?
Especially how things are accelerating.. technology, propaganda, new normal.. (have you noticed how everything that's supposed to be at least a real article is with a paywall or everything else is with millions of ads or a blocker for your blocker for ads, anyhow all papers -intellectual property is corporate and is their to tell you what to think is important etc..) then most forums, platforms are dead , FB has taken it all .. I want to say , the internet has changed to so much it's frightening and there's a law proposal in france to even control our use of internet (like a social credit system, you get a warning then no internet for you, paying fines just like in traffic )

It's true also how there's this fashion of snowflaking ) everyone is ofended by something ) Yesterday I had to do a lot of shopping and post office and I was going in the car getting out of it ,going in the shop then out, hundreds of times and I had the mask on/off/on/off and at one stage I was driving and I wanted to put it on (me the professional anti-masker) and I said to myself , "omg I totally Susie-O-Queued today" thinking of my Susie here ... and I thought , I better not say this on the forum how I'm susie-o-queuing when running errands, she might get upset and offended that I dare to think about her and the masks )

Again, we've come to that stage when even some basic banter and a joke is taking a risk when on contrary as we get older we should be much more relaxed, unfettered, liberated ...

I think therein lies the point. Youíve written a load of stuff which is not interesting or useful to the forum.

This was never the original intention of this forum. Itís turning into swisschat for expats to moan about everything, where a lot of it is pointless. The Facebook groups are becoming more useful.

Itís sad but becoming pointless.
