Re: Deleting My Account

O Bone but why do you or someone know what the forum was intented to be for ?
So far, I can see how there's a forum for different things inlcuding jokes, youtube etc.. then people are people, someone will find my banter good someone will hate it .. And this is why we all scroll down because not everyone's comment is interesting .. so no big deal .

I think therein lies the point. You’ve written a load of stuff which is not interesting or useful to the forum.

This was never the original intention of this forum. It’s turning into swisschat for expats to moan about everything, where a lot of it is pointless. The Facebook groups are becoming more useful.

It’s sad but becoming pointless.
There is the ignore button - I only see stuff from FairDinkum when people quote it...

Does anyone actually read those posts by Fairdinkum?
I think he is trying to be funny but I can’t be sure as the massive wall of text is just off putting and I can’t be bothered to read it.

As for the rest of it I completely agree.

Maybe that’s the way the Local wants the forum to go but it’s very far removed from what it was when I joined.

It really isn’t the friendly, helpful place it once was. I can quite see why newbies don’t stick around anymore given they way they’re treated most if the time.

Case in point.

You had to make a personal attack out of a general statement.

And are now calling names.

Better than your passive-aggressive posts - and not just to me apparently.

Anyway personal attacks are allowed now - especially ones where people accuse other people of sending PMs which they didn't.

Is this your example of where you act on what you wrote:

2) it being pointed out to them
3) their pride getting the better of them and them then digging the hole deeper rather than simply admitting, yeah, I shouldn't have said that.

There is no shame in taking back your words..
Or are your bon mots just for other people?

Which FB ones. I joined the Brits in Switzerland one last year and it’s the same bloody questions about travel and PCR tests 10 times a day, not to mention even more people posting poor opinions as fact than here.

He said: "Germans are Nazis", which is contextually the same as saying "all Germans". He didn't say some, or specify any administrative bureaucracy elements, so you certainly do not owe him a beer.

And yup, mods can also of course generally see soft-deleted posts. so they could confirm exactly what was written.

Hypocrisy of the first order is my take on the latest spat around here. St2leman’s remark on Tsherman bureaucracy was (under current sensibilities) perhaps misguided. However, after consultation with a learned colleague, we have decided to plea under the “grammatical stress” proviso § 249.24 of 1949, which clearly states that “are” could also mean “were”. Taken in historical context with Tshermany, it should be clear to even the dimmest light….anyway, some of my best friends are Tshermans (!) and you don’t want to hear their opinion on their bureaucrats. Nor would you necessarily appreciate comments on immigration/refugees – especially (joking?) gestures about how high their Alsatians can jump might well be disturbing to quite a few people.

So, we have a bunch of (at least partially) Brits condemning use of the N-word (German context, folks) by a lapsed American, while “Kraut” is kind of okay to some. Who won the war anyway?

Then we have the contribution of otec

What I personally find a bit disturbing, is that hyperventilation quickly sets in regarding le thème de jour but personal insults are simply ignored by all and sundry => post #12 by chuff https://www.englishforum.ch/leaving-...e-germany.html

Guys come on its st2lemans... he does this stuff for attention because he can't stand to be ignored, yet under normal circumstances has absolutely nothing of value to add to a discussion other than meaningless boasts and serial groans. Every now and then he throw up these particularly outrageous statements to try and stay on the forum radar.

He deserves our pity for being such an emotionally fragile and egotistical wretch; a truly pathetic specimen of a man.

But this is now the friendly free speech forum where all opinions are welcomed, right/left, up/down, positive/negative, mod performance.
Or is it more like "Animal Farm" where everyone is equal but some are more equal than others?

Delusional too.

I would have let it lie but you decided to put a label on me and others today - describing a behaviour which pretty much sums up the way you act on this forum.

Anyway, while you are being passive-aggressive to me, at least it gives the women on this forum a break from your constant hounding.

You seemed to know how the mod team at EF worked which is something different.

There have been references to leaks in mod zone, I was just dotting the i's & crossing the t's.
If I had 'knowledge' of what goes on in EF's mod zone, why would I ask the question in the first place? Riddle me that eh! You're taking this place way too seriously.

There probably was a firm 'original intention' but original intentions are allowed to change, either consciously or organically, and 15 or so internet years is a very long time. I disagree about the Facebook groups.

I'm not even sure that it's so very different. I started using the forum in 2009 before I arrived here, and despite all the very useful information, I found it a pretty cliquey and hostile place unless, as a newbie, you expressed yourself in the right way. It took me a while to work out that I had to be sort of deferential and ask nothing that could be perceived as uppity or revealing any character weakness. This ignoble tradition persists, with newbies who complain about parking/speeding fines, or horrible neighbours/landlords, or who need help after experiencing a work or relationship problem. usually inviting a merciless pile-on from all the usual suspects. There are pockets of extreme smugness, hostility, intolerance and unkindness here, and there always have been.

Is there something in the EF rules and regulations that forbids members from knowing how the mod zone works?
Your posts on this topic make me suspicious that there is a skeleton in the mod zone to hide.
