Deleting My Account

After 14 years, it is with a certain amount of sadness, I have decided to delete my account.

There are all kinds of people here, some educate and inform, some make me laugh, some make me shake my head and some annoy me for a few minutes. But there is one thing that keeps me annoyed - racism in any format.

In the past 24 hours, a member with a reputation for being contraversal posted a blatant racist statement. The post was deleted and the poster goes on his merry way to sin again...

After all that has gone on around the world over the past few months, the fact that the mods seem to feel continuing to enable this kind of behaviour is acceptable, is beyond me and I have decided that a community moderated in such a style is one I no longer want to be a member of.

Sorry you are leaving, wishing you all the best.

Jim, I am sorry it has come to this.

Your contributions over the years have been invaluable. I for one have benefitted greatly from your extensive knowledge - thank you for that. EF will be a poorer place without you.

I wish you all the very best.

If you are referring to what I think you are, this was neither racist nor reason to get overly upset about.

I am so sorry that you are going to delete your account - you are one of the long time posters like me and have contributed so much over the years.

Maybe take a bit of time out - block those you don't wish to read but it is so sad that we have lost so many long standing posters driven out but a few immature members....

Maybe you both are just attenetion seekers :o

He said that to provoke and you have opened this topic so everyone sheds a little tear when you could've left in silence ;):msnblush:

Social media sucks.
In which face to face forum / gathering / grouping would a person be able to get away with the kind of insults / race-baiting / horribly judgemental opinions one sees all the time on social media?
Can you imagine a person yelling out "All abc's are #*@+#'s" in his neighbourhood cafe and getting away with it unscathed?
A 100 years from now people will hopefully be wondering how mankind 'allowed' something like this to flourish.

I think it's safe to say that, at the moment, you are the biggest attention seeker on the forum.

I'm not sure that leaving the forum for this reason is the right action but of course anyone is free to leave if they want. I believe it was put forward recently that ignoring the problem is as bad as being part of the problem.

Hey Jim, we've crossed swords a few times here, but I wouldn't want you to leave the forum. Your advice and insights are always interesting, even if I disagree sometimes. I don't know who the poster in question is or what the remark was, but why let him win (presuming it's a male)? You have a range of options open to you like blocking his posts, reporting him, taking issue and arguing with him, simply ignoring him, and so on. Leaving the forum isn't the best option IMO, and will only leave him sitting there, grinning from ear to ear about another success. I hope you stay.

You have missed some details about this.

You chose NOT to report a post you did not like. The post was reported & within 5 minutes I deleted it, you chose to comment on the post which I also deleted along with a couple of other comments.

Within a few minutes I received a PM from you saying you had escalated the matter to an administrator, due to the tone of the PM, I reported the PM. It as it was clearly something for the administrators to deal with & in my view far too serious a matter for the moderators to deal with.

You will be sadly missed

I have to say I agree with this point of view. I don't post on this Forum that often, but do recognise your name and avatar and would also be sorry to see you leave. There are several members on here that I ignore by simply not reading their posts or skim reading them and moving on. I don't know which post you are referring to, but it clearly upset you, demonstrating that you have values and integrity. In my opinion the Forum needs more people like you. I hope you will reconsider.

I agree completely.

There are more and more posters that I am choosing to ignore, soon there will be more of those than anything else.

Rather than acknowledge and attempt to understand the issue, you immediately go on the defence. And the current mods wonder why there is a mass exodus ... or perhaps they don't care.

Please try harder, thanks very much.

I understand the issue, however due to tone of the communication there is nothing further I can do.

We had an exodus last year, the year before & even rival forums have been set up multiple times, it's really nothing new.

Looking at posting stats, the forum was busier in June 21 than in the previous 4 years in June, looks like the same will be true for July.

Talking about mass exodus and stirring and bullying.

I wonder why you didn't post publically what you sent me as a rep message?

I'm sorry to wade in here and perhaps I don't have enough history, but the response seems perfectly factual and the action taken sensible. I know there still seems to be raw feelings regarding recent changes in moderators, but it seems like assuming the worst as a default position.

Again, I try to stay out of anything overly political!

Jim, very sorry to see you leaving
