Mosquito alarm - legal in Switzerland?

Hello everyone

I live in a village near Basel, where we have encountered a "mosquito alarm", a device emitting a high pitch sound whenever someone passes nearby this alarm. The device is on the way to my daughters KITA, in a standard residential area, and it turns on when we pass a specific house on a public road, no matter how far away from the house we are. This is a big nuisance, and my daughter thinks it is quite uncomfortable (she is only 2 years old, but clearly let's us know she doesn't want to pass the house). Are these things even legal here in Switzerland?

Sort of a gray area. They are permitted but need to keep to the rules.http://www.laerm.ch/de/laermsorgen/l.../mosquito.html

Not sure if this is a mosquito alarm, but one to keep kids away - which seems to be working well…

Perhaps ask the owner to put it on a timer, I wouldn’t have thought he needs it 24/7.

Re: Mosquito alarm - legal in Switzerland?

It's probably a marten alarm. They've been around for a long time but can be very annoying.

Yes, it could be something like this, if this is in somewhat wooded or rural area:

But if so, having this on year-round is unnecessary.

Are you sure the device activates when someone comes near, or is it just on, and you notice it when you get close?

Re: Mosquito alarm - legal in Switzerland?

If adults can hear it, it is unlikely to be a mosquito, those are designed to irritate adolescents.

If the place isn’t one that teenagers are going to ‘hang around’ at, it is likely to be for the fouines. (French name for stone martens). These weasels (pun intended) actually were responsible for shutting down the Large Hadron Collider at CERN!

Re: Mosquito alarm - legal in Switzerland?

I would expect that it mustn't be triggered by movements outside of their own property.

What did the owners/renters say when you talked to them and tried to get them to correct the sensitivity?
