This one lives in a hole above a fish pond. We have seen it twice sunning on the rocks. Of course now that I know there is a snake I'm very cautious about going and doing things around the yard.

They usually dash away faster than you can spot them. Their senses detect vibrations of the ground signalling about possible upcoming danger
Unless they are digesting a meal, then they feel more threatened because they can't move so fast so they get ready to attack (according to a ranger from an Australian national park). Kind of blew away our previously recommended method of stamping our feet when out on trails.
