| | Fabric shops/brocki in and around Zurich
My sister is visiting from the US for a few weeks. She’s a costumer and does a lot of tailoring besides. Always interested in looking at fabrics. If you sew, what are some your favorite places to source materials?
Also, she’s a fan of brocki hunting. Last time she visited, I lived in Bern, and I’ve not been to many around Zurich. Would love suggestions.
I live in Winterthur, so am interested in places around Zurich and to the east.
Thanks!

Interesting that you should ask. There's a very large and popular Brockihaus in Ibach, Kt Schwyz, that has become extremely popular among the locals.
It's fairly new and housed in an empty factory. There's a large area for clothes and household wares and another area for furniture. Everything is sorted, marked and displayed for easy viewing. The prices are extremely fair as well.
I finally had a chance to look through their large range of products and was blown away by the variety, price and organisation of the place.

P.S. The Brocki shop is run by the Blue Cross, which has other branches as well. The website gives provides more detailed info on what they offer.

This one meets both your criteria - Brockenhaus (second hand shop) + fabrics - they take donations of craft materials. https://www.offcut.ch/zh/de.html | The following 4 users would like to thank swisspea for this useful post:

Perhaps there might be an exhibition or something else of interest listed on this site? https://www.swisstextilecollection.c...ausstellungen/ | The following 2 users would like to thank meloncollie for this useful post:

To be honest, I've found the selection of fabrics here in CH to be extremely limited. As an example, I've found it really difficult to find upholstery fabric anywhere here. And if I have found something, it's usually only samples in fabric stores with the usual, basic colors, and then it has to be ordered, and of course usually at a ridiculous price. I've also found the selection of fabrics for clothing or table linens, etc. to be very limited and rather old-fashioned, as though they had never updated their stock since the 1980s. I don't mean to seem negative by saying that; it's just been my experience.
For brocki houses (thrift stores) around Zurich, this was one of my favorites, though it's been ages since I've been there:

There's a huge selection of fabrics at the Weisbrod Areal in Hausen am Albis. A little further than Zürich but you could combine it with a walk around Türlersee. They have been going since mid 1800's. https://weisbrod.ch/ueber-uns/textil-geschichte.html | The following 4 users would like to thank Massa for this useful post:
