Would be interesting if anyone has the GTC for other insurers which may be more specific.

Does anyone know what the minimum legal age is here in CH to be able to use an electronic scooter?
In a few years, my son will be going to high school which is rather far away... and not easy to get to via bus or train.

And tell him that at night he should never wear all black clothing. The other day we almost hit such a person riding an all black trotti riding the wrong way on a very dark one way street. We were backing out and my wife screamed and I slammed on the brakes. Missed him by only a cm or two.

I checked the terms and conditions and it never even mentioned what do if a good is found, but I know they want to be informed if the good is found back (they told me when I submitted the claim)

The scooter is nice from May to September. When it's rainy or cold is very unpleasant and dangerous, especially for a teenager.
The scooter is a cool situational item. Can be used to reach the bus stop more easily, otherwise a bike would be safer (but again only when the weather is good)

I think the trottinettes are a hazard, a very serious accident waiting to happen because the center of gravity is so high above the front wheel. That makes an emergency brake worthy that name impossible. And if the front wheel gets blocked, all too often the rider smashes the unprotected head against the asphalt with the speed he's riding at.
Regulations, including maximum speed, are the same as for the less-cool-looking "small" e-bikes. Get him a bicycle or e-bike instead.

A mountain bike or city bike with good tyres is fine with autumn leaves or light snow, a scooter is basically useless in adverse conditions.

How far is it?
Kids carry heavy school bags - that's going to make an e-scooter even more unstable.
* According to my kids, my "it's just around the corner" is normally a stiff five mile hike.

Thanks, that's a good point (as are some of the other points mentioned here).
Even his backpack now, in 6th grade, can be VERY heavy sometimes. (It's rather crazy how they demand kids carry such heavy bags here). I actually hadn't put much thought into it, about a possible e-scooter as transportation to and from school when he's older, but I thought maybe it was an option. But it sounds like it isn't.
(The school will be about 4 km's away -- so not VERY far, but still quite far, especially in very cold temps)

I went to the police.
They didn't check my "evidence", nor the seller's Facebook profile, full of (IMHO obviously stolen) stuff on sale.
They told me whatt I can do is to arrange a meeting with him, and then call the police while there.
They will check, and in case confiscate the segway (which will go by right to the insurance).
Honestly, I will not meet a potentially dangerous guy, nor do I want to contact him with my Facebook account (I don't have a fake one), revealing information he could use to harm me.
Long story short, I will keep my new segway, the thief will not be questioned. | The following 4 users would like to thank LanaDrahperus for this useful post: | |

Disappointing and frustrating, if the police only look at it case-by-case they won't see the wider benefit of dealing with this sort of blatant scumbag.
Maybe pass the info on to your insurance company? I have no idea if they'd care but at least they have a financial incentive.

| | | | | That is ridiculous. From what you wrote before, the thief is a serial offender and is stealing and selling many scooters.
Surely it would be in the public interest to stop him without any danger to yourself.
It's difficult when we're just dirty foreigners but I wouldn't have stopped there.
I'd have asked to speak to a more senior officer.

I'd have asked to speak to a more senior officer. | | | | | Strange. I’ve always found the Stadt Polizei to be very helpful. Last year had deliveries stolen (CHF 700.-) when our main door was left open and unsecured during maintenance during the lunch hour.
I immediately went to the police station around the corner, and they were extremely thorough. Took and noted all my “evidence” (the packaging the thieves had left behind), and noted the details scrupulously. Even I was starting to sweat for some inexplicable reason.
They called me twice that night, to ask whether the contents matched any of the “hauls” they had caught that day. And one did!
The second time, I complained about a loud motorcycle that kept parking directly under my bedroom window (on the street), and came and went from 5am to 2am.
They could do nothing, but they explained the legal situation, sent an officer around to assess the situation, sent the owner a letter, and paid them a visit.
The issue was fully resolved within 2 weeks of sleepless nights.
Oh, and the first time during lockdown in my previous apartment. It was clear that the local church (visible from my window) was being used to sell kids drugs. One call to the police, and two police vans full of police were there within less than 2 minutes.

And if you did meet up with him, pretending to be a buyer, certainly don't go alone. Bring a male friend... or five.
But again, I can understand not wanting to deal with it.

Tell them you suspect it was your stolen troittinette advertised on facebook mp. Tell them that you went to report it to police, but they want to put you in a dangerous position by letting you arrange a meeting with the thief. Send them details of the ad etc. They'll defo go after his ass...
