Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

Need to buy a replacement battery for a Toshiba Laptop (A100-166).

Searching on the Web, there are many options from Genuine Tosh parts on Toppreise to higher capacity versions from other manufactures on other sites.

Just wondering if any one has any recommendations for suppliers?

Considering what you can buy a new laptop for today, the prices seem quite steep.

Re: Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

Is your laptop still covered by warranty? I got a new battery for my Toshiba Satellite A55 by calling Toshiba support and telling them that the battery it shipped with couldn't hold a charge anymore. It went from full to empty in about 30 min. They mailed me a new battery at no cost. Mind you, I was in U.S. at the time. Doesn't hurt to give them a call.

Try http://www.batteryupgrade.com

They have a good selection, although it's taking a while for my order to ship

Re: Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

I was looking at online videos to "hack" laptop batteries last week.

This is a list of videos showing how, and this is my personal favourite..

Much cheaper if your willing to "get your hands dirty"

Re: Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

Thanks for the replies.

There is no warranty left on the machine as it must be about 2 years old now.

I did some more searching and found this site: http://www.accuswiss.ch/ where they have a version for my laptop with double the standard mA. Will still look around a bit more. No major hurry as the laptop is rarely needed where power is not available, just a pain to always have to plug into the mains. Battery last just a few minutes now.

I will upgrade the laptop after the new processors come out as the laptop CPU's have not changed very much in the last couple of years. Also want it to have a decent size 'Solid State' disk instead of a standard harddrive.

Not sure if I'd attempt to build one myself. Although I am tempted to do this for my cordless drills. Anyone done this?

You must be kidding, aren't you?
CPU's over 2 years have gone from HOT P4 killing batteries to LV Intel Quad core or dual AMD at 32W.

On the other hand, I have rebuilt some obsolete packs for people and must say it is not a walk in the park.
You need a proper iron, not a simple plug-in-the-wall 45 watt model and operate the temperature sufficiently to melt the solder but not cause the new batt's to explode.

This also can take over an hour from the time you start to finish. The worse problem is knowing the make of battery you buy. Buy cheap and within 6 months the battery life has reduced to 20%. Buy good quality and you over price the job.

The biggest danger is the chance of the batteries exploding during rebuild or leaking and catching fire after you get them done.

The PSU inside the notebooks is designed to supply the exact amount of amperage for a certain amount of time (done is second cycles for ion batteries, 2 seconds charge, 2 seconds off for example). Put in the wrong batteries and you put yourself, the machine and people or house items at risk (Fire).

IMHO this is not the way to replace batteries. Especially if you do not plan to keep the notebook yourself and monitor your handy work. If someone unknowing buys it from you, leaves it plugged in and goes to work and a problem arises (fire) I would not want that on my head although this could happen to any battery, at least I know I didn't cause it.

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66MHz in my laptop. There are faster chips now for laptops (and were at the time), but stil only Dual/Duo's from my understanding.

The processors for Workstations however have come a long way in the last couple of years though. Built a new one a few months ago with an Intel Q9450 (Yorkfield-Core2Quad 45nm).

But maybe I'm wrong, not really looked into this in detail. The prices however have dropped considerably and memory/harddrives have doubled or more.

Anyhow back on track, I would prefer to buy a replacement battery for a laptop as I don't think the risk is worth it of building one yourself. I did take a quick look at the battery and the 'package' is sealed/glued with no way to open it to see what's inside anyhow.

I do plan to build my own drill batteries though. Less of a risk here of issues. If it kills the drill, then then not such a big loss.

If it is a Makita 9.6v, let me know and we'll build 2 for me as well.

Re: Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

I have a couple (3 actually) Bosch Cordless drills and one Cheapy (Einheit?).

I do have a Makita cordless saw (ca. 3inch blade) which is great. But battery for this seems to be fine for the moment.

Einhell you mean.
well considering you can buy the new drill and 2 batts for under Fr. 40, I think this one is a "no-brainer" which I tried a year back buying it for a quick job fix.
Let's just say it served its purpose as I was 2 hours from home without anything, and it is now laying in drill hell. (but the battery is recycled....of course )

Re: Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

Yes Einhell.

As you say, for the price, it did the job, came with dual batteries so one could be charging while the other was in use, but even that was not enough (as the batteries were pathetic i.e. the Bosch battery would last ca. 4x longer and the battery would die before the spare could be recharged even when the Einhell was used for the lowest power/shortest jobs).

At the time I was doing a lot of work on the house and having multiple drills was really useful as it saved having to swap bits/drills etc.. so having several cordless and mains powered drills help speed up the jobs.

Re: Where to buy replacement Laptop Batteries ??

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but have you looked at the dodgy fakes on ebay?

I replaced my Dell Latitude battery with one from Asia for about £25. All seems in order, battery life is less than my original 9 cell (only just) and the laptop thinks the battery has 6600hours life left in it but I'm happy for the cash I spent.

I checked the shop I got mine from and they don't do Toshiba batteries.

Ricardo and Ebay are your best bets, they're much cheaper than online stores. Just choose a seller with a relatively high rating.

e.g. Ricardo

Where to buy XPS M1330 battery?

Hello,

I need to buy a new 56Wh battery for my DELL XPS M1330. Is there any other seller than DELL from whom I could buy this? At dell, it costs ~184 CHF!

I have seen many other retailers in the US, who sell if for ~$70-100.. I was wondering if there are any such retailers here...

Alternatively, if I were to buy it from the US and have it shipped, would customs fleece me??

Thanks for any help!!

Re: Where to buy XPS M1330 battery?

search Ricardo.ch for "m1330" and see cheaper batteries. They may be inferior to Dell ones (but given the reports on the XPS batteries, maybe not!!)
