zurich vs canada

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right section but I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm not.

I am fairly certain that there are a couple of canadians in this forum and I basically need your input guys. I have been living here in Zurich for the last 2 years (almost). My boyfriend however is in canada and we would like to settle down together (preferably in one country:-). Based on what we do, it seems I have a better chance of finding a proper job there in canada than he in zurich. So I've been contemplating moving there. The thing is after experience the life in Zurich and the quality it has to offer, I've become more picky in what I want i.e switzerland has runined it for a lot of countries out there.
I would much appreciate if you, being canadians, can give me an insight of how you find canada after zurich or do you think that i can find the same quality of life in canada or even better than in zurich?
if it helps, i'm in the reinsurance industry and love my job over here
thanks for any input you may give me

Re: zurich vs canada

There was a whole long discussion a while back on Canada vs. Switzerland.

Maybe have a look at that first. It might help you formulate your questions.

Re: zurich vs canada

Im Canadian (from Barrie, ON) here learning German in a job I dont particularly enjoy, with a girl back home who i believe cares a lot about me, making money so i can afford to finish my degree when I return. Im stuck in a contract which keeps me here till July...

I love both of my citizenships.... I love both my lands... but not a day goes by where I dont think about my friends and family back home in Barrie. In contrast when in Canada I only think about Switzerland really when reminiscing about my time already spent.

In conclusion...dont sign contracts when you dont understand the language theyre written in.

Yes. It took me two tries to find the link again.

Where in Toronto? To my mind this has an impact on the quality of life.

Re: zurich vs canada

Good news, my son is a cop in toronto, you in good hands Toronto is a very very big city, not that easy to get around to with or without car.It has a very large etnic ,inc.armenian. Jobs are plenty good ones not.Living yaers in Zuerich you are properly spoiled.I personaly like Toronto but prefer smaller citys, like Ottawa,Barryetc, etc. If you like the outdoors ,there is no limit to it and Toronto is a good starting point. Live in general is much more relaxt and simpler then CH,also much cheaper. I my self prefer to live in Canada, but I love CH,zuerich, metzgete I am not that good in writing , what you see is what you get Ah ja the weather, hot -very hot, cold -very cold

Re: zurich vs canada

I was there for 2 weeks earlier this month and went around in Scarborough, Markham, Collingwood and downtown Toronto. the one I liked best was downtown in terms of seeing people on the road and actually meeting them where elsewhere it's too big. I must say in terms of living I guess I would like the Markham area and work/spend time in towndown or places like barrie or collingwood for a relaxed weekend in nature.
I'm quite an adaptable person but what worries me most is the job, financially as well as comfort. like many people mentioned on another thread 2 weeks vacation is nothing when you get used to having 5 weeks and + of vacations here and also will i be earning enough there to be luxurious when i get the vacations...is there any chance some international companies offer different benefits (longer vacations)?

I don't think you can compare Barrie with Zurich though.....

Re: zurich vs canada

It really depends on what YOU & HE want together. You should know, if you want friendly people, ability to read everything you get in the post or shop and 7 day-a-week shopping, Canada is the spot to be.
If you want to make good money and know (more or less) you are not going to get mugged walking around the city at night (or day in some places around TO), Switzerland has that.
Tough call; salary, taxes, health care, people, diversity, travel. These are my questions which have very different replies depending on which country and city.
If you have both passports and can afford the move, try them both.
Places in Canada - Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, maybe Halifax would be similar to Zurich.
