does anyone have an internet radio

i am looking at getting an internet radio so that i can listen to my local station back in the UK.
i can buy one in the UK but i have found that the clocks on clock radios are set to GMT and not CET and there seems to be no way to change this so i am assuming this will be the same with an internet radio if bought in the Uk.
has anyone bought one from switzerland?? if so how do you find it, any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

And you can't or don't want to do this with your computer..?

I listen to internet radio via iTunes, many times just going to the website of the station you want to listen to and you'll find a link to live streaming (if they have it, not all do).

I have never heard about Internet radio, is this something new? What I normally do is use online streaming of the famous radio channels in SA!

Re: does anyone have an internet radio

I used to have an internet radio, but it fell on the floor and broke. Anyhow I couldn`t pick up the national BBC UK stations on it from the UK, ie BBC Radio One, Two etc. The reason being that these stations were restricted to people living in the UK. I saw that Aldi Suisse were selling an internet radio this week.

I've been using the following for over a year now and it's a god send:

http://www.terratec.net/en/products/...adio_2212.html

Many UK radio stations are blocked due to liscencing..........etc, but with this radio I receive many stations that are blocked online.

I purchases mine from the swisscom shop.

Re: does anyone have an internet radio

I had one of these (it has died)

http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/pro...radio/WiFi.asp

But BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 were very weak and broken feeds, most other UK stations were ok. I never got to the bottom of this even listening through my laptop they are broken and keep re-buffering. Not sure if it's to do with loads of expats downloading?

Great fun listening to stuff from other countries as well!

Re: does anyone have an internet radio

I had one.

A Revo Blik I think.

I loved it when it worked, but that was not very often.

You could wake up to any station around the world but if there was a problem with the wireless or if it had just downloaded a list of new stations it would try to wake you up by not making any noise and displaying "Please choose station". This happened at least twice a week.

Surprised from the OP that you can not change the time on one bought in the UK.

Re: does anyone have an internet radio

I have two, a Logik IR100 and a Revo Blik wifi. They both work using the Reciva internet radio portal and I certainly have no problem listening to BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.. and I can even utilise the Radio 4 listen again feature, which allows you to scroll through a list past programs and listen to them again "on demand".

Reciva pumps out two data streams for many stations, wma and Real Audio, and it seems that only wma has problems being received outside of the UK whereas Real Audio gets through fine.

I would avoid the German makes such as Terratec etc.. because most do not work via Reciva, may not support Real Audio data streams and most do not support the Listen again feature from the BBC.

Therefore to summarise stick with a Reciva based device and make sure it supports Real Audio, because there seems to be less licencing restrictions with that format.

I have the same one and it works brilliantly. Have you done a firmware upgrade (via the config menu) because I know that earlier firmwares were a little buggy?

The reichweite (reach) in the house is between 35 to 100 m only, so I assume it is average around 50 m, if the house is big or duplex with walls, will this be enough. Thanks if someone can shed light on this aspect

The Noxon is a good choice, albeit a tad pricey considering the lack of stereo speakers.

I'm sorry but I fail to see how its a good choice if it cannot receive all the BBC Radio stations outside of the UK. If you see these two comments, it confirms that the lack of Real Audio on any device greatly hinders it if you're listening from abroad.

Stations that still broadcast in Real Audio in 2009 do not deserve any audience.

I think the Op wants a local station, anyway you can pick up Radio 1 plus the other BBC channels with the Cablecom receiver if you have one. Quality is better and you don't have to have Internet/computer switched on.

Re: does anyone have an internet radio

I have a magic box imp, it is wonderful. (It's a reciva based chipset branded as the imp, others are just as good).

It sits on my bedside table and wakes me up every morning with Radio4. I have absolutely no trouble with the BBC streaming service and it is a very rare day when the stream goes down. I have Radio4, Radio3 and World service set as 3 of the 5 main presets, they all work very well.

My only complaint is that the access to listen again is a bit tedious since you have to twiddle a lot of knobs to get what you want. I generally use the PC for listen again rather than the bedside radio. (alright I have a few other complaints, but nothing serious that outweights the advantages)

In the future I plan on investing in an old netbook (Asus eee 701) type PC from ebay when the prices drop a little. then I will have an easy way of accessing listen again via bookmarks etc and a GUI to browse, whilst still maintaining my regular live stream. As an alarm clock I find the reciva based solution simply fantastic. As a serious Radio4 addict I would be lost without it. I will keep the imp as a bedside radio and use the netbook in the kitchen. I also use a transmitter and wireless speakers to broadcast the radio around the house which enables me to listen to anything anywhere.
