Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4

This may be of interest to owners of PowerBook G4's & iBook G4's.
Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4

Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances.

I have always wondered why my PowerBook battery got so hot while charging. As it's now almost completely run down, I had a look on the apple website to see about ordering a new one & this is what I saw.
I checked the serial number stated on the above link (which matched) & have just ordered the battery exchange.

after checking this out it seems this is a very old scheme dating back to 06 - so it may not be current

Re: Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4

A short demonstration as to why everybody with an affected battery should take part in this program.

While this is unlikely, and this battery was deliberately put into an unstable state, the overheating of the battery does increase the possibility of this.

Oh and by the way the battery in the video was a mobile phone battery. Laptop batteries are bigger.

I've just checked - it's still current and active. It's a safety recall - These are normally unlimited.

Re: Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4

I remember that one. Came right after I got my G4. I got the battery changed right away and the process worked very well as I recall. Haven't had any problems since then.
