about online shops outside of switzerland

hello everyone. i just moved here this month and i plan to buy my own computer. actually, a gaming laptop because i will be traveling. i searched the internet and forums (including this one) for good online shops so i browsed through toppreise, pcp, digitec, internet.ch etc. i also checked some shops in town but i realized that online shopping is somewhat cheaper, though anti-social

so after checking these sites i researched on a good/reasonably cheap gaming laptop that would satisfy my pc gaming appetite for a good while. i decided that i would be getting an msi gt725.

then i stumbled upon a germany based notebook dealer: http://notebook.de
the gt725 is much cheaper there but i was not sure about transactions outside of the country.

so here are my dilemmas:
1 if anyone here knows about the site, is it trustworthy or has anyone experience any issues with them?
2 is there a big difference between shopping here and outside the country?
3 if you know anywhere else where i can get a better deal, please point me to the right direction

thanks in advance!

Re: about online shops outside of switzerland

One thing I've noticed about 'foreign' transactions is that there can be some issues with different taxation rates on goods & services... and expect a big 'extra' charge for anything couriered over from the US...
Looks like you're looking closer to home, though, so that shouldn't be an issue... and there are some shops along the border that cater heavily to Swiss customers.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but hopefully it gives you a few things to look out for.

Oh, and apologies for asking the blindingly obvious, but did you check in which currency/ies the prices were quoted?

Re: about online shops outside of switzerland

they posted a contact number on the site so i will call them about courier charges. i don't really plan on purchasing anything outside of europe now, i think i can find anything i need in this continent.

the prices in internet.ch and toppreise were in chf but notebook.de was in euro

Yes. You will pay duty taxes, the Swiss VAT and will have to make sure that the foreign merchant deducts the EU VAT and declares that he did that to customs.

Also, if anything breaks and you have to return the product, getting service will be a hassle (time) and pricier (shipping).

I recommend brack.ch and digitec.ch, have used them both for years and they're very reliable.

Hi Daregoat
I agree with the other posters, you'll mostly likely pay customs duty when you receive it along and also added hassle of fixing your computer when the seller is from another country.

Buy one here, its much easier, I would rather pay more for peace of mind Good luck!
