Re: PC Games in English?

I bought FIFA 07 for the 360 at interdiscount last night, it's all imn German or French, I want Allie and Mottie telling me 'oooo didn't he want that!'

I shall have to take it back, seemingly I can get an English game at Softridge?

Re: PC Games in English?

CoD3 for the Xobox 360 (German Version) does NOT play in English. After being assured it would by a gimp in Interdiscount.

I had to sell it at a loss of 30sf and order a copy from Play.com. Arrived yesterday with another DVD order at the same time AND no Customs charge.

Yay!.

Re: PC Games in English?

I got word from two interdiscount staff that if it was not in English I could bring it back, within 10 days they said. Also I just bought over 700:_ worth of 360 swag from them, if they don't take it back, I'll tell them I want a refund on everything so that I can take my business elsewhere.

Anybody flashed their disc drives so that copied games can be played?

Re: PC Games in English?

I didn't check my CoD3 at home last night so it is either a US region free or a UK import that Softridge brough in.

Not looked at chipping or re-flashing as I value the Xbox Live service too much to be banned

So flashing is detected by the live service? It's a firmaware flash on the dvd rom, does it do a checksum on this?

Re: PC Games in English?

It would be easy enough to check through the local code running on the system.

Microsoft have a track record of auto banning accounts where the system software detects mods and uploads information associated with the serial number of the 360 and account details to the live system.

I'll have to reseach that then. Interdiscount took back the German FIFA 07 that I bought (adn played) last night. They didn't even hesitate.

Re: PC Games in English?

EA have always been the problem company with games only containing German and French. If Softidge only have the German version in, they will be able to get the English for you without any hassle.

I pre-order most of my games now and the english versions tend to come in either with the German ones or even ahead of the German ones (in cases where the US version is region free).

I'm not sure what is happening with the 360 publishers at the moment, more and more games are being released without region coding, which is only a good thing as far as im concerned.

Re: PC Games in English?

Stadelhofen is a much bigger store, the guys in there speak better English and are more informed (especially Sandro). They also have a bigger selection of pre-owned titles than HB.

The HB store is also much harder to get to as it is in the smaller rear section of shopville that is reached either by walking along the underground platforms 21, 22 etc or by walking around to the back of the HB to the entrance around Josefstr.

Re: PC Games in English?

Excellent, thanks for all the info Zenistar. Stadelhoffen is much closer to work as it is. I don't suppose they're open past 19:30? I can't find anything online about them.

Re: PC Games in English?

Stadelhofen is open until 8 on weekdays and the HB shop until 9 (they both open late).

http://www.softridge.ch/ has the opening hours and other details.

SOFTRIDGE HB HB Halle Sihlquai 8005 Zürich Öffnungszeiten: Montag – Freitag: 10.00 – 21.00 Uhr Samstag: 10.00 – 20.00 Uhr Sonntag: 10.00 – 20.00 Uhr Telefon: 044 210 31 00

SOFTRIDGE STADELHOFEN Bahnhof Stadelhofen 8001 Zürich Öffnungszeiten: Montag – Freitag: 10.00 – 20.00 Uhr Samstag: 12.00 – 18.30 Uhr Sonntag: 12.00 – 18.30 Uhr Telefon: 044 252 26 00

BTW I am not involved with this company in anyway (as someone mentioned to me) I just like to give them free advertising as they provide me with an excellent service.

The majority of 360 games are multi language and will switch to the language of the console system. As an example, Rainbow Six Vegas says on the box that the game and manual is entirely in German but it plays fine in English on a 360 with English set as the system language.

I have found this to the be the case with all but one game so far - Burnout, it plays in French on an english system as French is the next language selecton on the system screen - it can be switched to German though so it is playable.
Just found this forum from a google search. Been wondering about getting R6:Vegas and Gears or War recently. Do you think that if it says French for the language with Vegas that it will also change to English Zenistar? Also if the game says Version Francais on the front would this mean it is completly in French? noticed all the Gears of War say this, when i ask in the shop they say it is, but im not sure they truely know.

Re: PC Games in English?

The majority of time games are multi language even if says something different on the box. EA are an exception to this rule, quite often they limit the languages on a disk, e.g. Burnout was German and French only, no English. Oblivion is anohter which is single language only due to its size.

Many games will in the German part of Switzerland will say things like completly in German on the box. My copy of R6 has "Spiel und Handbuch auf Deutsch" on the back but it plays in English when English is set as the language of the xbox.

I have a US version of Gears of War (it is region free) so I can't tell you what the Swiss version plays in.

Will the store not put a copy of the game in their demo box for you with the regional language set to English? Media markt and Softridge will do this to check if you ask them, though with MM it depends on the mood of the assistant.

Re: PC Games in English?

I might try ask them if they can put the game in a console and check, i guess if they want to make a sale then they should be willing to do it. If your copy of Vegas said ingame language and manuel in german but plays english then do you think one that says french would do the same?

The important thing when asking them to try the game is to get them to change the language setting of the console to English first. Most 360 games do not have a language selector but will automatically play in the language of the console.

It is most likely that the French R6 will also play in English - it is cheaper for the distributors to create a single disk with multi languages than individual disks for each country in Europe.

Re: PC Games in English?

Thats good, think R6 might have been the game i was gonna go towards buying. Having the devils job trying to pick which one to get (only really have money for one) ive played R6 and like it, but GOW looks incredible, however there is now demo. What for you has been the most fun, or the most replay value?

Without a doubt I prefer GoW for both single and multiplayer.

The Dreamcast used to have language indications on all the games IIRC (my stuff is in storage at the moment so I can't check). Unfortunately, most systems don't tell you what languages are supported so you have to 'buy and hope'. I ended up with a couple of Xbox1 games which were French/German only, that way.

As you say, the best way is to find a friendly store which will put the disc in a console for you to check. PC Joy (now bust I think) in Letzipark were very helpful for this and I guess the other smaller stores would also be good.

MM is a bit hit and miss. But 'if they won't let you test the disc, make it clear that you won't buy it' became my policy after I spent 100CHF on Burnout 3 only to find it was De/Fr/It only.

Re: PC Games in English?

Thats one reason I highly recommend Softridge, the guys in there are always willing to help, will test and if something is not in English they will arrange to get one for you within a few days. They also bring in most of the new titles in US format (often before the release date) as many 360 games are now being published without region encoding.

I agree on the PCJoy comment, I used to frequent their Löwenstrasse store many years ago.

Oh and I am also stuck with a DE/FR/IT Burnout that i bought on a whim from MM. I should have known with it being an EA title that it would not be English but I took the chance. To be honest though, that type of game I have no issue playing in German, the only problem is that when the game is placed into an English language 360, the game plays in French as French is next on the 360's language list after English. So each time I play it I have to change the console settings to German and the back to english when I have finished.
