ICE AGE 3 in english (and young children in the cinema)
Love to take my 4yo to the cinema to see ICE AGE 3 in english, but all the cinemas in Zug appear to be showing it in German in the afternoon? Anybody know of a nearby cinema who will be showing it in English in the afternoon?

Cinemas in Zurich city tend to be in original language. But the problem is, as far as I know, the minimum age is 6 years old for children.
Not sure about the age thing, but the cinema in Sihl City (Brunau) means you don't have to actually go into the city. they show all films in original language at some time or other. Lovely complex.
or simply check out Cineman, there they show what language they show the film in and at what times. You might even try to see it in 3D (still pretty much a novelty here....)
Switzerland has a rule (stupid or otherwise) that children under 6 are not allowed into Cinemas.
Except for the "nuggi kino" sessions? For example this one in Basel (http://www.pathe.ch/basel/nuggikino.php - Ice Age is the next one ), but I know Coop sponsors it in other towns

If you go to Sihlcity be aware they check
My missus tried to take our (nearly) 5yo and nope - no go
Note sure if she was just too honest though - guess you can lie

I suspect a number of people ignore that rule
Not quite true, but almost. It varies - as a lot of things - on the commune or canton. Having had a look at the Bluewin page, it seeems that it varies depending on language too!
Ignoring, by the way, is not always possible. In Pathé, Dietlikon, you may have to show an ID. They can be quite stubborn, I've heard, as the cinema operators face fines if they let in "underage" viewers.
But it's old and got derailed. Cineman merely states that unaccompanied children under 6 will never be accepted. Maybe other parents of young kids can contribute some up to date information about the local rules?

Re: Age restrictions on cinema no under 6
I can only say the times I've tried the cinema with an under 6 it was a disaster - they just couldn't sit in their seats that long, and the loud noise is scary even if the movie is not...
We've done it a few times without any problem. Told my 5 year old that if anyone asked, he was 6. He walked into the cinema and said in a loud voice ' right, if anyone asks I'm 6!` My daughter hated the cinema until she was about 8 but my sons have loved it from about the age of 3.
The following 2 users would like to thank whyamihere for this useful post:
Has anybody actually been refused entry cause their child is too young to a cinema in Zurich?
Want to take my daughter to see ice age 3, and she is 5. (you need to be 6 it seems)

I think there was a thread a long time ago here where some was refused entry to a cinema in Zurich... sorry I can't remember the details, perhaps you might find it with the search feature (I could not!)
We once rang the Pathe Cinema in Dietlikon and spun the line that we had a 12 year-old who looked like an 8 year-old and asked if we would be likely to be stopped. They said that it was a funny coincidence that many children in Switzerland look much younger than they actually are and that it was not up to them to judge at what age children should see films. Basically they made it clear they wouldn't refuse any child entry.
A friend of mine had an experience at Pathé Dietlikon with his son, who was 5 at the time. An ID was called for and the father didn't have one. The boy was refused entry, the dad argued to no avail, so they eventually left in tears.
Cinema owners get fined if they let in "underage" kids. You may be lucky - you may not.
When I look at Ice Age 3 in the Basel Kinoprogramm, it says 4/7J.
This means kids from age 4 can see it with an adult, but they can only see it by themselves from age 7.
(I find the distinction a little weird, as I can't imagine sending a 7-year old into the movies by themselves.)
Maybe you should double-check that. Maybe it's different in ZH I dunno.
We were told about the distinction because we were organising a movie party for a dozen kids, and it said 3/6J for this film. We were worried, as we had several 4-year olds in the group. But with adults, there was no problem.

Yes, it is different. Each commune sets the age limits itself. A few cantons, i.e. Zurich, Basle and some others have the same regulations canton-wide.
