People who do not turn up for organised events.

To all the people who did not turn up for organised events on EF.

I spoke with a few people who organise events on EF about the amount of people who confirm yes to events then don't turn up and we are noticing a few familliar names keep cropping up who put there names down to our events and never turned up.

These people who do this has to stop now! You are ruining the spirit of the Event organisers, the EF website, the well being and time which people give free of charge to help true ex pats, who sometimes feel isolated when living in a foreign country and are given a chance to find a social network.

STOP THIS NOW.

Re: People who don't not turn up for organised events.

Realistically I think you have to expect a certain amount of drop outs - It's the nature of the beast when arranging events. Also if it's the same names that do this time and time again then you can probably safely ignore them.

A bigger problem IMO are those who don't RSVP at all and then turn up to the event. You can prepare an event based on the number of RSVP's, but you can't prepare for those people who you had no idea were coming.

Yes, but on the Basel curry night, nearly 50% of people dropped out, that is ridiculous and so embarassing when you tell a restaurant owner that even though you have confirmed 22 people are coming earlier that day and only half turn up.
I appreciate some people do have a genuine reason last minute why they can't come.
But, for those who are too lazy to turn up or are serially abusing the system, listen up.
The restaurant can and should have the right to charge the organiser as they have staff and pre prepared food to pay for, which basically makes an expensive meal for the people who use the service with respect.

And that is the word which is paramount here. People need to show RESPECT for the people who are trying to organise things on here.

All I can say, is good luck... this happens constantly in Bern and I've given up really trying to get people to understand. Why complain anyway, it's not going to change anything. Or just quit organising.

It would be a shame if everyone quit organizing. My gripe was people didn't cancel, which left people who did want to come out in the cold and me with a red face at the restaurant.

Re: People who don't not turn up for organised events.

For events that are strictly limited to numbers (I often have them for max 12 people) I always PM or e-mail and get a confirmation 2 days before (and I always give them my handy number to call on the day if they have to cancel) - for these type of events, I've never had a problem.

If it's unlimited in numbers I don't worry, those that say they are coming and don't are usually outnumbered by those who don't say they are coming and do!
