Venues for bands?!

Hello there, a good friend of mine is arriving in Zurich in August and wants to play some small venues - pubs/bars etc as well as doind some busking. Can anyone help with venues, also is it legal for him to busk just about anywhere, and will the Swiss give him money or not!!?? Haven't noticed a lot of busking around the place... (or heard very much street music anywhere in Zurich to be honest!)

JL

There's a thread about busking here.

Don't know about venues and such, but there is heaps of busking around Lake Zürich - although, again, don't know details (such as whether you need a licence, or how long you can stay put ...).
There are some brilliant street performers about, including a saxophone quartet I've seen a few times, a guy who plays what appears (to my eyes) to be a concert marimba, and a few more things I consider out of the ordinary ... as well as the many accordian players, guitarists and fiddlers ...

Thanks :-) I don't know where these street musicians have been hiding the last four months then! Thought this seemed the most music free city I have ever been to! (although I do see a lot of people carrying musical instruments strangely....)
