Swiss Army Knife

An interesting article on the knife...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8172917.stm

It is an object that is recognised all over the world, and it is globally popular.
But the Swiss army knife had humble beginnings, and, at the start, it wasn't even red.

Re: Swiss Army Knife

I love my Swiss army knife, I carry it everywhere (except planes these days). I bought it in 1993 in Luzern, at that time, I never dreamed I would actually live in this country at some point. It is incredibly useful, for cutting labels off things, tightening the screw on my glasses and many is the time I was the only one with a corkscrew and very popular because of it

Re: Swiss Army Knife

I had one a while back, but gave it to my sister as she left to travel the world before I did. Now I am thinking of getting another, thus any advice where I should shop in Basel for the best range and price?

Re: Swiss Army Knife

I was amused to see the following on an email from a Swiss B & B this morning:
Quote:
Cheapest army knives in town!!!
If a UK B & B said that, they would probably be shut down!

Re: Swiss Army Knife

A lot of stores seem to carry the knives, there are two main brands, Victorinox and Wenger. I think I have seen more of the Victorinox ones. Most of the big stores carry them, Pfauen, Coop City, I think. Most places that sell any kind of souvenir type of things. I think the prices are all the same, recommended retail.

Cheers

Re: Swiss Army Knife

You can get the Victorinox at Migros for a good price but they don't come boxed.
