Hi all, not really sure where to post this but here goes.....

My husband and I both play jazz and are keen to hear about any places that actually have live jazz so we can go and hear some (babysitters permitting, of course), and also of any places that have jazz jams so we can start to do a bit of playing and get to know some other musicians. My husband's already gone along to a place called JazzBaragge (I think) near Bellvue, but there most be other places too that have a bit of jazz happening. Anyone know anything about it?

Hi, thanks for your reply. We've already done that. I guess what I was asking for was really any first-hand experience of smaller places, particularly those that provide an opportunity for musicians to get up and play. It's really the best way to meet (and hear other musos) and to be heard yourself.

Jazz bars in Zürich seem to pop up and go bust pretty quick.
I'm a Bluesman myself. All those 9ths and 13ths seem to just get in the way of letting your guitar tell the truth.

I went a couple of times to a really nice restaurant on Fraumunsterstrasse in Zurich which had live jazz and blues playing while you eat.

That was nice, anyone know the name?

Hi Kate, nice to hear that there are other musicians here. What do you play? and for how long? I wish I would also find a good place to listen to jazz. I am learning to play saxophone (alto). I'll ask my teacher next week, maybe she has some tips. I wish I would be more advanced to play with you. I am in Zug. Regards, Gabriela

there's a really sweet jazz club in Sargans, but about an hour from Zurich but just down the road from me, it's really intimate. A mate of mine is in a blues band www.donp.ch take a look at the "tour" page and you'll find plenty of small venues all over Switzerland that do jazz and blues.

Thanks, everyone. I'll check out your recommendations when I get the chance (again, toddler permitting....sigh). It's great to hear that there is something happening. It's tough moving to a new city (make that country) and having to start all over again trying to get the gigs! We're Aussies but were previously living in Norwich, a small city (town really, in my opinion) in the UK but at least we new most of the musicians!
