Re: Region Free Portable DVD Player

You can always buy a DVD player and then unlock it to play all regions.

Media Markt or Interdiscount or Fust.. You should be able to get one for 50-90 sfr. Region free. If not suggest that you go on the internet and check that the one which you would like to buy has the crack code.. I bought mine for 49 sfr from Media Markt and was able to get the code off the internet. Be careful if buying a Toshiba as the codes for them are not readily available.

Careful getting a "region free" DVD player from the likes of Inter Discount. Maybe my case was exceptional, but I was sold a regular dvd player there and told it was region free - as in plays several formats incuding regular data cds. Lo and behold, when I tried to stick a US dvd in the player, it didn't work. I ended up finding a code on the internet and can now play whatever I like.

I don't think your allowed to sell an unlocked region free dvd player (at least not in the uk) so inter discount where correct, it can be unlocked but they can't sell it like that or offically tell you how to do it. I bought one in the uk from richer sounds, and they slylee gave me a badly photocopied sheet with the unlock codes on.

You can always check out ebay, buy one from china or HK and it'll be unlocked, and play just about every format going (mp3/4, divx, xvid etc etc) off any source (usb, sd card, dvd, dvd rw etc) we have one in the car for the long journies back home. and waaaaaaay cheaper then buying it here even after postage costs etc.

Re: Region Free Portable DVD Player

I bought a "code free" Toshiba DVD in from Fust when we arrived in CH and bought the TV. The quality of the player is good, but ensure it's marked code free as they don't seem to understand the region thing here.

Re: Region Free Portable DVD Player

I believe the OP wants one with a screen in it.

http://www.toppreise.ch/grp3_376.html for the device
http://www.google.ch/search?q=region+free+dvd for checking if there is a handset hack
http://digitec.ch/ProdukteAuswahl2.aspx?knr=985 if you're lazy and just want it to be codefree (take R1 DVD with you )

Re: Region Free Portable DVD Player

I checked Inter Discount and all their players are marked Zone 2 on the back. Conrad had only overpriced ones (I even did not check yet if any of them region free). I'll try Media Markt tomorrow, but wondering if something has changed meanwhile and region free players are not easily available anymore, so hacking is the only option?
