well I had Given GMAT last year...didn't kind of got the score i wanted...but did farely well..infact i will be giving it again next year to get my 'Wanted' score.
As you would know that it has two important sections...Quants and Verbal..Quants is not much of an issue...but for Verbal i have three recomendations...
1. Start with Princeton Verbal Exercise....1.5 weeks
2. Solve the GMAT OG 10 or 11....2 weeks
3. Kaplan...2 weeks
and am sure in six weeks...if you have done with these three stuffs your verbal section is taken care of...and also u need to spend some time everyday for quants in these six weeks...and then after six weeks...u have to practice 3-4 tests before your 'D' day...and hopefully you are there...
also to get more insights of the test you can refer the following link...its an official GMAT web site... http://www.mba.com/mba | This user would like to thank 7Elway for this useful post: | |

Lots of videos are available that might be helpful if you are studying on your own.
Go to http://www.youtube.com and type GMAT in the search box. You will see a selection of topics i.e. math. Click on that and there are lots of videos you can watch that solve GMAT test problems.
There is one site that has many many videos of GMAT math problems. I think I posted it already but have not found the thread. If I do, I will repost it.
One of the keys with the GMAT test is pacing (not spending too much time on a problem if you are stuck and only solving a problem far enough to allow the selection of the right answer). The only way to work on this is to do practice tests under time constraint.
Good luck with your studying.

I used some books by Manhattan GMAT. They were the
best in my opinion.
The study plan by the aforementioned poster sounds good.
You just have to pick the right study material.

even if you feel confident regarding your math or English verbal skills, you should prepare for the exam nevertheless.
Check Amazon for preparation books; definitely follow the guidelines the books suggest. By all means try to solve as many tests as possible..
and also try to make a sample full length exam by strictly checking the time restrictions

Still have not found the link I was looking for but found this. Might be worth a look/try since the basic part is free. If it looks good you can pay for the premium part. http://www.magoosh.com/pricing.php |

well, there it is, neatly laid out above this post, almost everything about the GMAT, from the horse's mouth, so to say
there is much more material out there, both free and paid, and it's only a mouse click away on your screen.
the only other thing I can point out, is that the GMAT, like any standardized test, is not just merely a test of your knowledge or intelligence (if indeed it is possible for a test to measure those).
You CAN improve your score through practice. I took the test almost 10 years ago; the first time i took a mock test, I scored somewhere around 500. In 5-6 weeks, working on it religiously every day, i got all the way up to the 700s.
so get a book / online course, and get after it. take a few mock tests, and you know exactly what you need to work on...

I did the GMAT test a few years ago. What worked well for me (and produced a result of 740) is to do some basic preperation based on what you can find on the web or in basic guide books, and then just work through as many past test questions as you can. Near the date of the test, do a few simulations with exect timings of past tests and you should be well in sync with whats needed for the real test.

I took the GMAT last August in Zurich. Did great! I already applied to Business School outside of Switzerland. Waiting for responses now... This will be my window of opportunity to GTF out of here.
I am selling all my GMAT books now. I have all of the Manhattan GMAT guides, Kaplan Guides, Flashcards and latest Official GMAT Guide. some of them are heavily marked but in great condition. I hope you don't mind.
Please contact me if you interested in the books.
Regards,
Gusilú

From my personal experience,
1) Register in GMAT site and get your initial score from the PrepTest
2) Do exercises in GMAT OG
3) Take the test again after 3-4 weeks
4) Check your improvements and prepare a SWOT
5) Pay money for a GMAT test and then prepare more rigouously with the date in mind
6) Take the test
Resources needed for a good score is PrepTest, Official Guide and Internet.
That's it.
no need to prepare for AWA if you have a good reasoning skills and a good english background.
BTW, i have an Official guide and some GMAT books to sell. PM if interested

From my personal experience if you come from a scientific background the maths section is often pointless if not illogical certainly impractical and sometimes downright sloppy. I would recommend a fairly rigorous preparation here. Specifically I found the questions asked in the mock and actual exam to differ strongly from the printed questions in the preparation book.
