What do you know about BASIC ?

People are getting too hung up on minor matter like islam, christianity and such trivial stuff. If you want some real purpose in life, brush up on your BASIC and impress girls with your knowledge of one of the earlier programming languages of our time.

Let me get the ball rolling:

10 GOTO 10

Anyone care to expand on this ? (hint: use of the PRINT keyword).

Now that brings back memories!
Not that I ever understood it, but I think I had to type it out. Cannot even remember where I was working at the time.

? My zx spectrum or zx81 cannot deal with this... should I use my atari800, my philips p2000 or my sinclair QL for this ?

Well, in zx81 basic all assignements must start with LET as pressing H will immediately call up the 'GOSUB' word (If I remember correctly)...? Isn't there a name restriction for variables ? Plus the ZX81 doesn't do lower case...

Re: What do you know about BASIC ?

10 For A = 1 to 10
20 Get A
30 If A = Cat go sub 100
40 Print "Tosser"
50 Next A
100 Print "Idiot"
110 goto 10

or something like that anyway, years since I played with BASIC and then it Texas Instrument BASIC for using a TI994A (which I've still got - how sad is that?)

Re: What do you know about BASIC ?

Let us complete this work of Extreme Programming with the introduction of the clincher when it comes ot landing the girl: the Easter Egg!

Alas my best ZX81 pseudo BASIC - if i remember right

10 LET HelloGoodbye=FALSE
15 LET EasterEgg=1
20 IF HelloGoodbye Then GOSUB 80
30 IF NOT HelloGoodBye THEN GOSUB 100
40 HelloGoodBye=NOT(HelloGoodbye)
45 EasterEgg=EasterEgg+1
48 If EasterEgg=50 THEN GOSUB 130
50 GOTO 20

80 PRINT "Hello"
90 RETURN

100 PRINT "Goodbye"
110 RETURN

130 Print "DB BOLLOCKS BOLLOCKS BOLLOCKS!"
140 RETURN

Got to go, Kate Moss has just called asking whether we can do anything in Assembler.

Just what I'd expect from some Oik from the wrong side of Old Costessey, bloody typical.

Ah, you mean REM? That's the trouble with computer programmers today, no sense of memory requirements

Don't start used to spend many a day programming my zx spectrum in assembler writing games and everything. Came to an abrupt stop when I discovered mopeds and going-to-the-beach-long-distance-mopeding those were the days

Or Apple II Basic, some interesting commands, CTRL# 4

Seem to remember that this would get the floppy disc drive to scan until you turned off the machine.
