Place to buy TV etc in Germany (ZRH)

Hello - I need to buy a large-ish TV, hoover/vacuum-cleaner and a few bits and bobs now that I found a place. I believe it will be cheaper in Germany (closest to Zurich). Does anybody have an address/place to go from Zurich ? and if I could combine it with an Alpabzug on the way or back tomorrow 26.9 that would be perfect. Thank you for advice.

I doubt they're cheaper. CH is more expensive than surrouding countries in almost any category except electronics. No idea why, but I've compared prices and generally find things cheaper in CH.

I agree, with electronics it generally does not make a huge difference, even after discounting the VAT that you will get back (BTW, for goods>CHF 300, you will have to pay VAT!). Add to that the travel costs to Germany, and you might be better off looking for offers on melectronics, or media markt.

Re: Place to buy TV etc in Germany (ZRH)

use the price comparison websites like www.toppreise.ch and www.preissuchmaschine.de to work out how much your trip is worth doing.

Then click click click and wait for the delivery.

For what you're describing, travelling from Zurich to cross the border will be a false economy (but if you do it, try to get German VAT refund and declare your stuff for Swiss VAT).

Singen and Waldshut I think are the places you might want to go to.

I was suprised at the cost of electronics here too, it's really not worth travelling abroad.

FYI, Amazon.de, or UK for that matter, will not ship electronics to Switzerland.

I speculate that it's to keep the distributors in Switzerland happy...
