| | Dishwasher Help Needed Please!
Greeting EF,
I've got a Miele dishwasher at home and a red light has appeared next to the words 'Salz' and 'Sel'.
I'm not too conversant with dishwashers so am a bit clueless about what to do. What does it have to do with Salt? What should I do?
Thanks in advance.

What you need is "Regeneriersalz", you'll find it with the dishwasher products. There is a big flap inside the bottom of your machine, you open it and pour in the whole box of salt, that's it.

Miele machines take 1-2kgs of salt. Any kind of salt is fine, just that the one with added iodine is intended as cooking salt. Roll out the bottom tray in the dishwasher and look for a white cap with an "S" on it. Turn it to open and pour in as much salt as will fit. Water will spill out, that's okay. Keep pouring until it can't fit any more salt.

I'll pop off to the supermarket just as soon as the snooker is done!
MarieZug, do you use normal table Salt?
Many thanks once again.

salt compartment will probably damage the water softener unit.

. | | | | | Thanks weejeem. Point taken. I think I'll stick to the proper kind. Don't want to damage my machine!
I have another question. Do I need to run it once without dishes once I've filled in the Salt? Or is it ready to go right away?

. | | | | | I don't know if it would damage the machine but at 90 Rappen a kilo " Regeneriersalz" is half the price of regular table salt anyway.

Do I need to run it once without dishes, once I've filled in the salt or is it ready to go as normal?
Cheers once again.

. | | | | | The person who installed my Miele said that table salt is fine, just more expensive. I was really keen on trying out my new machine and table salt was all I had in the cupboard. Best machine i've ever used with a delicates cycle for glasses and a quick wash. Even the tray heights adjust to fit larger items.
BTW: It was ready to go right away and no need to run it once without dishes.

It might kick on the pump for a moment or two but don't worry, this is normal.

Cheers once again. | | | | | My Miele Instructions say that when you have filled it, you should run it. I always re-fill the salt compartment in mine when the machine is full, ready to be used. Then I switch it on straight away. If you don't have a load, run the cold programme.
The instructions also say 'use only special dish-washer salt'.

Thanks in advance. | | | | | You can ask Miele for a manual in English. Appliance Instructions in English
Or you can look on www.miele.co.uk and see if you can find yourself. The model number may not be identical, just look for a panel that looks like yours.
Recently I found that the V Zug website offers the option to download manuals in English. | This user would like to thank Mrs. Doolittle for this useful post: | |

as routine, not unless you want problems with yer ion-exchanger.

DO NOT over fill the salt compartment as the salt becomes compacted and will not run through. I have Miele appliances and I had a problem with the dishwasher because of the compacted salt.

Baby, you also may need to top up the rinse-aid fluid so you don't get streaks. Usually the lil' cap is on the inside of the door, with a lil' hole to pour in the fluid. It looks something like this, but get the Eco version : |
