Removing Stench from Bag Interior

Hi peeps,

This is gonna sound silly. I packed some tuna salad in a tupperware and brought it to work in my leather sling bag.

I thought I had the lid firmly shut and also a plastic bag around the tupperware. However, either some sauce leaked out or simply the strong smell of the tuna is now left inside my bag.

I have tried vigorously to wipe the interior with a wet cloth over and over but it doesnīt really help. Obviously I cannot throw the bag into the washing machine because itīs leather. And it is too stiff and the design is not meant for turning it inside out for better airing.

Really appreciate some brilliant ideas how to get rid of the stench. I know, itīs probably a dumb thing to stuff tuna sald into my bag in the 1st place.

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps sprinkling a fine amount of baking soda throughout the bag-shake around so there's a good layer. Letting it sit overnight, then vacuuming it out.

Might work---good luck

You could try Carbo medicinalis (medizinische Kohle) - at least it doesn't itself smell, so you're not going to be left with two smells instead of one.

Febreze smell-removal spray thingie? It does have a faint sickly-sweet stench though, but probably still better than tuna.

I second the bicarb of soda treatment. Used it for stinky vomit smell which wouldn't budge from the carpet.

1. Baking Soda
2. If above fails, google (ice) hockey bag stench; I'm sure the poor women of Canada must have come up with some ingenious treatments. ;)
