External Harddisk Repair

Hi all... i could not access my external harddisk since a week ago. I would like to know if any of you know a place to repair or at least try to save files inside my harddisk.

Thank you very much

you could try extracting it from the casing and see if the drive itself works (e.g. could be electronics in the USB enclosure that's broken).

Unless the data is vital, irreplacable and valuable to you I would not reccomend to you to try and have the data recovered by professionals. Will cost you an arm and a leg and with no guarantee of success.

Re: External Harddisk Repair

What are your symptoms with the drive? Does it spin up/make any noise (such as repeated clicking). Is it completely dead with no activity/led lights blinking or shining steady?

Don't void your warranty by doing something you don't know

take it to a repair shop

warranty is probably irrelevant since the drive should be binned after data is recovered.

waranties don't cover your data either, so even if it is still under warantee all they will do is give you a new drive.

Is your HD Western Digital?

I had the same problem.

As a temporary fix, what I did was, connect the adapter to power source without attaching the other end to the WD HD. The light of adapter will be on. After 15 min., I will connect the other end to the WD HD and then connect the USB to my laptop.

Try this. It may work for you.
