| | Where to get cheap (second hand) Windows XP
I'm brushing up a computer of a friend who's handicapped, he's not the wealthiest person, though. I'm therefore looking for a legal copy of Windows XP, if possible with SP 1, 2 or 3. Second hand would just be fine. The lower the price, the better (best would of course be for free). Anybody willing to assist, please contact me via PM. Thanks a heap in advance!

Well, I dont condone software piracy more than the next guy, but its widely available on the net. BUT, just a word of advice, make sure the version is at least SP2. In some cases if your second hand copy ends up having an illegal product code (could happen) and its SP1, you wont be able to go to SP2, and I think similarily for the next service pack.
But then again, there are also 'legit' product codes out there that can bypass this business as well.

If you haven't gotten a certification of authenticity then it isn't legal. I am not judging, I am just stating the facts.
Another option is to try eBay.
Brian.

Better to cough up the cash and know that you aren't going to infect your PC

Thanks for your comments! Think it this way: If you were down to zero income and still eager to have access of the wisdom on the Internet, what would you do...? Being a social worker, I'm used to sympathize with alternative ways of thinking, be it legal or illegal.

There are lots of web browsers that work very well that are free. And there are free OS's as well. They just won't be windows. But, once you get them to work they will be much more stable.
Good Luck,
Brian.

Thanks, Brian, for the hint about Linux. That's however something for a nerd and surely not for a computer beginner like my friend.

I recently un-installed XP from 1 of my PCs. It's the English retail version from quite a way back, so doesn't include the Service Packs, but it will update automatically. PM me.

As long as your friend is not a nerd, it does essentially everything you want it to without hassle.
