Re: Eid ul Adha: 28th November 2009

Hi,
This is my first post. This forum is excellent with lot of information and knowledge.

Regarding Eid ul Adha, according to some websites, today is 2 Dhil-Hijjah. Which means that Eid ul Adha should be on Friday(10 Dhill-Hijjah) and not on Saturday. I am talking from the perspective of Sunni Hannafi/Shaffi sect.
Do you know where can i pray? I celebrated last three years of Eid outside Switzerland.

Sorry about my ignorance if i am not following any forum governance rules.

Regards,

It is as necessary as working on a cotton farm in Egypt and working in a sweat shops in India and electronic factories in China to fully appreciate the clothes we wear and the gadgets we use.
You are trying to put together on the same pedestal .. the act of slaughter as against bad working conditions ... There is a big difference ..

If forced to choose, no one in his senses would choose the former ..

Why do we justify one wrong by comparing it with another wrong .. Are we short of arguements here ..

If I understood the information event yesterday correctly, any person of any religion can pray in any mosque as long as you truly believe in a god (I suppose they meant a monotheistic god). It would be interesting to test this in practice.

But to be serious: The guys that initiated this event can be found in Zurich, just google the name at the very top of this thread. There is an e-mail and a telephone number, I am sure they can help.

Yes this is true. It has gone one step further as i have seen people in UK praying in Churches. I was in one Hospital campus near Harefield and was quite astonished. No one seems to care about it which is very good. Also there is a praying room in Zurich airport which is for all the faiths.

alfred007, you appear to miss the point in the previous posters comment. Either way, it doesn't matter, as you're interpreting animal slaughter as a wrong. I'm not going to debate this principle in this thread, as it's way off topic and there's an active Ethics / Animal husbandry thread pumping loud and clear where we can bang on as long as we like. You were inferring a whole religion is getting it wrong, and on this basis I'd prefer if you didn't continue the theme in this thread. Thank you

(Ps, I like the Tom of Finland avatar ...)

Just to remind all the Muslims on this Forum.

The Eid ul Adha Festival will be observed on 28th November which is a Saturday.

Those of you who will be going for Hajj and others who will be offering prayers please remember all the innocents who are dying, starving or facing hardships in the name of religion or otherwise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Information for others:

Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎ ‘Īdu l-’Aḍḥā) "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid" is a Muslim Holiday celebrated by Muslimsworldwide to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God.

Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice their best domestic animals as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice. The 1/3 of the meat is distributed to the families, relatives and friends, 1/3 to poor and rest can be used by the person himself.

Eid al-Adha occurs the day after the pilgrims conducting Hajj
