Computer repair in Basel

let's ssituation:
I have to find a repair shop for Toshiba laptop in Basel where my laptop should be examined and an estimated repair cost be provided

because... I have extended international warranty and my dvd burner is not working properly. but in order to get repaired I should send an estimate first.

The laptop in toshiba portege (the licensed repair store is close to Zurich and I am in Basel and I think that if I have to go to there and back like 3 times or send it, better buy external drive).

so, do you know a computer repair store in Basel? a good on....

Maybe try and call them ? At least for the Lenovo laptops, you can swap the drive yourself, and they send it to you by post.

Doc.

Re: Computer repair in Basel

this is an option although i am not sure if it will fly with the store and the warranty... otherwise I have no problem with either this option or an external

Re: Computer repair in Basel

Call the Tosiba helpline...if your laptop is in warrenty they will perform certain troubleshooting steps and send you a replacement drive which you can also replace as it comes with instructions.

Also to ensure that your dvd drive is faulty did you try burning both "+" dvd and a "-" dvd?
Is the problem with reading or writing?

New laptop has 1 year ITW (International Traveler`s Warrenty) but no brand gives ITW beyond 1 year though you might buy an extended warrenty but it is only honoured in the country from which the laptop was originally purchased.

Re: Computer repair in Basel

I had trouble with my Toshiba as well. What a worthless piece of Sss#$%!

Unbelievable, eh? They have only one official repair workshop located in some industrial park in the middle of nowhere. There's not even a bus that goes there. I didn't have any extended warranty, just the regular one, which meant that I had to take the laptop there myself. I know better ways to waste 5 hours.

After that experience I gave up on the warranty - more trouble than it was worth (or that the computer was worth). I take my shivering bucket of a laptop now to a little computer shop on Petersgraben, next to the Hotel Rochat. It's a one-man show, but he is very competent and speaks English, and I had an all-around good experience there.

Re: Computer repair in Basel

Thanks for the suggestion... I saw the place and will try it (and will send the bill to the store holding the warranty after I checked what is the process) . If they pay - good, if not ....

I checked where Toshiba service center is and don't want to spend a day or so to go in the middle of nowhere close to Zurich...

and I had a box of DVDs and I have used them before and it was working .. and I tried a few.. I doubt that all DVDs were bad
