King-size mattresses and box spring availability?

We want to bring our king-size bed to Zürich. I don't know if it would be cheaper to ship the mattress and box springs or buy new ones. So, the first question is: can I even get a king size mattress? The mattress is ~203cm x203cm The mattress sits atop 2 single-size box springs. Many of the large European beds I've seen are just two single-size beds pushed together. Does anyone know if it possible to find these items in the Zürich area?

Thanks,
Ben..

all the double beds I have are one bed. You're confusing some hotel beds with "real" beds ;)

Who's paying the shipping?

If you bring it, ensure you have enough sheets and bedding - you might find they're hard to find over here in your size.

you have to order such a large mattress - e.g. at Pfister. We ordered a 180x200 one and it took about 2 months before we had it, cost around 4000.

Did you take the job?

We jjust had a thread on this over the past few days with some good info. It is pretty expensive to ship a mattress, but if the company will move a container for you, then you should bring your mattress. Downside is that sheets are sized differently in Europe. Upside is that they are much cheaper in the US, so you can order high quality bedding from a US store through internet and have it shipped.

If company will not pay for a container or to have your things shipped, you can have a look at some of the Starwood Hotels (W, Sheraton, Westin). They all sell a retail version of the "Heavenly Bed" that they use in their hotels. Very nice beds that might be cheaper than shipping your own (that is what thread was about). Sofitel was also mentioned, but I have no experience with them.

Furniture is also much cheaper in Germany, and as your wife speaks German, you might find it easier to shop at one of the stores in Munich and bring it in a truck to CH. You can get VAT back from EU and then pay 7.5% in CH. Good deal, but a bit of work.

Regarding the retail versions of the Westin Hotel or Sofitel Hotel beds, I'm having a devil of a time finding information on ordering from Europe and then having it delivered into Switzerland.

So far, what I'm seeing -- and this may just be a need for more coffee -- is an option to order in the States and then ship the whole lot Internationally.

But there must be an offshoot of these Hotels based at least somewhere in Europe that I can order from and will be slightly less expensive and time consuming than having it shipped from the States, yes?

Any thoughts would be helpful. :-)

I am resurrecting this thread - does anyone have any info about ordering a US-size mattress from a hotel chain in either the US or Europe, and getting it delivered to Switz?

If you go on the Westin site to look up the Heavenly bed, all the purchase options for Europe are Euro sizes. I am looking for US-spec beds, inc. California King.

Many thanks for any info you can offer!

Hello, indeed, it is virtually impossible to get bed-related items (including particularly mattresses) from a foreign country in Switzerland. The few brands that were available until a few years ago have been discontinued. When one goes to a shop (just try one) and asks if all the beds and/or mattressses are swiss... there is normally a quick afirmative smile in the shopkeeper. I do not know what the forces are, but there is a huge protectionism on the Swiss bedding business; that might explain your problems to import. I have tried for example with Seal's, without any success.

Nobody is going to stop you importing your own from Spain- if that is what you want.

Or are you trying to start your business... again:p

www.elitebeds.ch sell very good quality mattresses, at a price, very near you in Aubonne, almost next to IKEA.

Ok, so there were two other very old threads on the same topic today in which Karen showed her blatant tunnel vision and in which she also collected her groans and red blobbies, but they seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Currently, Karen's stats list 1 post (read: the one above) and 6 groans, but those groans were not given to her in her allegedly one and only post on this thread but in those other threads that can't be found any more.

Is it possible that whole threads got deleted because of one troll?

From what I remember, Karen started the other two threads herself. The only posts deleted were hers and the replies.
Even though the threads were deleted, Karen keeps her groans. :)

And well deserved they are.
She's being very racist towards Swiss mattress, and that's not on.
Mattresses have feelings too.

Yes, you may be right, one of those two threads was opened by herself, but now I can't find the other one either.

And I wonder if the groans she already dished out were deleted too.

Let's not forget all those poor Swiss sheep that had to die for their wool (no pun intended), and all the sweet little polyesters.

.

She started one thread and copy/pasted the same post on another older thread.
The thread was deleted and I guess just her post was deleted from the other thread but I can't remember what it was called ( it did relate to beds and mattresses though so it may even have been this one.).

That older thread covered the differences between US and European (or Swiss) beds. I think it even had "US" in its title.

Anyway, looks like her trolling was successful; after all, we are going on and on over her babble. However, her post count is back to square one; needs some more trolling to sell her stuff.

Karen's thread has been restored. She assures me she's not a troll, she just really, really hates Swiss mattresses. Rest easy, Adrian, your joke is back. ;)
