just for the record ( address book/file etc ) there are quite a few in Biel-Bienne as well, considering the big african community here.

And Biel is only about 1 hour by train away from Zurich and a tad less from Basel

Re: African-American in Search of a Hairdresser

If anyone can suggest a better title for the thread I've just merged, feel free to suggest it. Caucasian sounds better than non-local, etc but words are failing me this Friday morning...

I love the internet

and wikipedia makes mention of Caucasian hair

and this one makes mention of those categories of hair type. Not bad for Friday morning failure.

Hi

just wondered if anyone knows of a good hairdresser for Asian hair - someone who can cope with thick hair, and lots of it. I've been to a number here, but tend to leave with a poorly cut head of hair that looks like Ive dragged through a bush backwards.

My current solution is to wait till i travel to a country which has decent places, but since I havent travelled for a while, I need to seek out somewhere in Zurich. . .
Same question, but for Bern please?

Cheers!

Straight perm

For anyone who has heard of the Japanese straight perm or the magic stragiht perm (this type of hair straightening is especially common among Asian women, and the process takes up to 5 hours in the salon), would you be able to recommend a salon in Zurich that does this?

Thank you!

Re: Hairdresser for non-Caucasian hair?

Try McConnell's on Limmatquai. Ask for an appointment with Lee. There was a Chinese lady next to me when I was there last week and she almost jumped out of her chair with happiness. She kept tellng Lee how much she liked it, how it was the first time she had her hair cut so well here etc. He is on the expensive side CHF 120 but because the cut is so good your hair stays in shape for at least 2 months and you can go to him for a free fringe trim between cuts.

Re: Hairdresser for non-Caucasian hair?

Hello there,
I've been reading this thread, I'd like to know any of you have eventually try one of the above mentioned salon/hairdresser? I urgently need a good hairdresser who can do Asian hair.

I recently went to a hairdresser in Zurich to get a perm, and i'm completely disgusted with the outcome which costs me chf 220
The perm is exactly NOT what i want, it looks horrible I urgently need to fix it.

Appreciate any feedback if you hv tried the said hairdressers. THANKS!!!

Hi Mavis

Ive been to Hirano a few times now and am really pleased with the results - you could try him for some first aid - he really understands the problems we have with hairdressers!I also tried Mariko in Niederdorf - she's good for basic cuts, but Im far happier with Hirano.

good luck!

Re: Hairdresser for non-Caucasian hair?

Thanks Dee!!!
Now I have to wait for another week, so my hair get some rest before another treatment, otherwise all my hair will be completely damaged.
But I'm glad that at least now I hv hope in having a nice haircut.

Re: Hairdresser for non-Caucasian hair?

Oh gosh, I know how you feel. I went to a couple in ZH, and I paid almost 140-170Fr but came out so disappointed......ended up crying in my bed for a week.

Well! anyhooooo -

I'm not sure how good these salons are, but I hope it helps you. Unfortunately these salons aren't located in ZH, but I think for a satisfying outcome at the hairdressers this trip is worth taking.

These are all Korean hairdressers, maybe you should give theam a call and tell me how it goes

Address is Spitalgasse 5, 8001, Zurich.

Re: Hairdresser for non-Caucasian hair?

Hi,

I totally agree with Dee. I tried Hirano twice now and my hair is very thick and frizzy. Hirano is good in the straight perming/rebonding and also the layering. Despite spending 250 Sfr for my hair, I feel satisfied and will not replace him as my hairdresser for anyone else

Does Hirano do rebonding in the salon? I will cry with happiness if so!

Re: Hairdresser for non-Caucasian hair?

Hi Summerrain,

Yes he does, using Japanese materials which make my hair long lastingly (approximately 6 months) straight even if its natural texture is frizzy.

Here is the details:
HIRANO
Schaffhauserstrasse 122
8057 Zürich
Tel 044 362 20 44
Fax 044 362 20 52

öffnungszeiten:
Di+Mi 9.00-18.30
Do 11.00-20.00
Fr 9.00-18.30
Sa 9.00-16.00

Best if you call him up to make an appointment and explain to him your hair length etc to ask him about the price for rebonding. He speaks very fluent English.

Good luck!
