Re: Why are people mean?

I personally, find it difficult to get good rep. point.

So I am always a little bit annoyed when an idiot gets good rep. while he has so many groans.

I try to remember since this is a forum, people hide behind their screen and can be whatever they like and say whatever comes to their mind....

Beside those ones, this forum has a wonderful community. I am very grateful for all the good thing coming from it, all the help from the members.

Sandgrounder, What did you do to be so hated by this person?
That little mad thing has been at it on a few threads in the last few weeks. I think she has just been banned again for sending nasty PMs..

Haha! Why do I have a feeling she went kicking, cursing all Efers and wailing like a banshee

Re: Why are people mean?

Gee I come here to get some stress relief from moaning and this is all-moan moan moan. Or do I come here for a good scrap?

I wouldn't worry like someone else said - it all sorts itself out in the end. Ignore the bad posters, enjoy the good ones. Mine are particularly brilliant.

P.s. I'm not too proud to take a sympathy blobby!

Thanks to the mod who just carried out the ban. I was just about to report them for excessive and unwarranted Groans.

I got three "revenge" groans today from another accomplished troll on this forum but you just have to realise that groans/bad rep borne from this kind of reaction speaks volumes for them rather than me.
Angelae: sorry to hear this happened to you, I think I read the same thread and thought your point made sense and agreed with it. Anyways, people (and I have to count myself in there too...only rarely of course ) but I remember once I was responding to this EF member (not longer active I think) and he went and groaned at every post I had made in that thread even if it was saying hi...LOL some people never grow up, and this is not always for good.

Cheers!

Personally I think it would be good idea if rep records were public, i.e. completely transparent. That might show up some over-nice or over-nasty scoring. And we'd get to see some positive or negative tit-for-tats.
Everyone can see each others profile, allowing one to see the rep and comments from the 'provider'. One thing to consider is to lead from the front. Slings and arrows, etc. Don't hold back from compliments, think twice about damning a user. They may just have had too many whiskies. Step away from the agit posters. In over four years use of this Forum, it's the optimistic posters who remain interesting and kindly, not those who react in a nasty or negative way. We all need more sleep. This bottle's really rather good... cheers...

I guess there is some justice in the world - I worked out who it was (not hard I know) and the ban is definitely deserved - some people need to let a little sunshine into their life

Re: Why are people mean?

Unfortunately, while some folks tailor their behavior according to what is truly right and fair, others behave only as nicely as they "have" to... if they can get away with being nasty, they will.

Alas, within a relatively anonymous medium such as the internet, a lot of people can get away with a lot of nasty behavior even though they'd NEVER feel they could do that face-to-face.

At least, I tell myself that those who are nasty here are quite nice in person, at least individually anyhow.

Re: Why are people mean?

There's people like this everywhere. They are not important so don't give them what they want.

Take from the forum what's good for you and forget the bad stuff and if you've got *horrible* pms, the mods and admins are there for that...

I remember AbFab once saying this too. Unless things have changed and I cannot find the right place, it simply isn't true. Mods can, normal members can't. We can only see our own rep, together with the name of the sender and the comments added.

Yes this is true only mods can see other peoples rep comments, each individual can only see their own.

The Ban... "not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon, for a more civilized age"

this I find upsetting.
Upsetting?

It's the internet, isn't it?

Log off, make a cup of tea, cuddle your puppy/kitten/child, look out of the window, watch the telly, read a book, be happy.

Have to agree with DB here. People on EF seem to take the rep system way too seriously; even compared to some other forums with way more infantile posting.

of course, there are some ways to make the rep system more useful but I am sure the admins are aware of the possibilities using vBulletin.

Attach it to electric shocks and immediate deliveries of Marston's Pedigree.

That would work for me.
