Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

Hi All,

We're expecting our first child in July, and so after selling the sports coupe..... moving apartment to somewhere with an extra room..... and slowly getting things a little ship shape, thoughts again return to our soon to be new addition to the family.

My wife is all set on getting a Bugaboo Chameleon, however looking over the web prices seem to vary massively ($900 US, 1600 CHF CH)

Therefore I would like to ask people who bought one here or elsewhere to share their advise.

Thanks in advance.

Phil.

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

From our experience was cheaper to buy in UK. Excellent buggy, our daughter has spent her first two years of life in comfort. Only downside is that the Bugaboo is a pain to travel with and so we had to buy an additional stroller for airplane travel.

Hey Phil,
If it is an option for you, you might want to look at second-hand bugaboos. We bought ours on ricardo.ch for about 800CHF, still steep but a bit more affordable. They're pretty tough, so they last a while.
Just a thought,
Eva

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

Thanks to you both for your advise.

I'll look into both options.

On the new front though, Mothercare seems to have very good prices. Plus it seems if you enter code AF9 when checking out, you get 10% off over £120.

This is attractive as a friend of mine is soon emigrating here, and bringing all his stuff with him in a container and so potentially a Bugaboo for us too.

Hi Phil,

I am expecting soon and all set on buying the Bugaboo cameleon.
Do you mind sharing with me where you finally bought it from? I did a quick online check and US works out to be the cheapest...even more than UK....but then I might be wrong....

Any thoughts?

Thanks a lot for your answer, in advance
Best

I am not sure if this helps a huge amount but there is a Baby 1 outlet just over the border from Basel in Germany. If you are ever that way it is worth a look, I cannot remember if it had Bugaboos though.

They do have reasonable prices on Tripp Trapp high chairs for a bit later, we got ours last week and picked up some other bits too.

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

Thanks Guys,
Baby 1 is an excellent find. They do have good prices, I think even better than what we found in Konstanz. Will call them and check about Bugaboo...could not find it online but they might be able to order one.

Sadly, if we get the pink Bugaboo (as shown in the sale advert) my husband will not use it . But thanks nevertheless for bringing it to my attention....

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

I often have a look at http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?se...lp=&hp=&manu=0 aka www.toppreise.ch to get a starting point, we have brought a bit of stuff from Babyjoe.ch and found them helpful. We have an 8yo old Bugaboo frog (not for sale) that has been used as a jogging stroller, around the world a couple of times and generally abused - it is still going strong (although the front wheels are a bit wobbly), my advice is to buy a secondhand one (normally with a lot of accessories) and save your money.

I have no ideas about strollers, but it looks again as if the Swiss price is massively inflated: Toppreise is good, but even there it is over 1500 CHF. "Guenstiger", German site like toppreise has the thing for 800 EUR including postage. Just check if the shops they link deliver to Switzerland, even with all handling and 8% VAT on top is this a couple of hundreds cheaper.

http://www.guenstiger.de/Preisvergle.../Cameleon.html

Or drive to one of the outlets of the linked chain with the best price, for example in Weil am Rhein

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

Why are people obsessed with bugaboo's? I think they look like dolls prams, although I am envious of the accessories for it but almost everyone has a bugaboo in Zurich!

Anyway i would suggest giving other brands a fair chance, most are a good 500 to 700CHF cheaper

I couldn't agree more. I think they are really ugly and there are plenty of other brands which do the job just as well and look nicer for a fraction of the cost of a bugaboo.

Try and get people to buy in H&M or C&A instead of Louise Vitton or Hermes. Its the same Idea !!

Look for Quinny,

Same quality, same style but much cheaper and very very comfortable for the child and the one pushing it!

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

One of my criteria was a big basket area underneath and the bugaboo's is small plus impossible to get to when the bassinet is on. Plus the front wheels of the bugaboo are just awful, as flimsy as a dolls pram

Anyway this isn't helping the OP

A friend of mine bought her bugaboo at Baby 1 over the border near Basel for a LOT LESS than CH prices

Re: Best place in CH / Elsewhere to buy a Bugaboo Cameleon?

When they first came out they were way ahead of the pack in terms of design, manoeuvrability, practicality (although I'll grant you that the two-component part is a bind).

I would argue that while there are cheaper buggies around, you do get what you pay for. Buggies get a surprising amount of wear-and-tear and by the time your toddler is bouncing around in there, climbing over it and using it in ways the designers never thought of, cheaper buggies will be falling apart.

Buy cheap, buy twice as the saying goes.

When we bought ours we tried all the different buggies available at the time and it came out top for us. We used it for our children and then handed it on to someone else when we were done with it (coincidentally to a friend who's cheap buggy did not survive the second child).

I guess they've just kept their market position based on the initial lead they built. But yes, they do have a premium price.

True but you get what you pay for.

I agree with the obsession bit about Bugaboos but as I said above the Bugaboo is bombproof, the Quinny is ok but frame breakage is a problem on some models. You also need to look at the weight and collapsed size of a stroller (8 vs 15kg), the flexability of use (one unit from birth to finish), manoverability (easy for shopping but lock the wheels and you can jog with it) for the above points nothing comes close. It is a bit like an Iphone, it would be a very good thing to have if everyone else didn't have one and they were not a status symbol!!

For making calls and writing emails, the two fundamentals of a modern smart phone IMO, the iphone sucks. I want my blackberry back

If these things are important to your choice of stroller you cannot beat a Chariot. They look more sporty than the fashionable bugaboos but they are incredible pieces of equipment and very difficult to find second hand as they are snapped up immediately and everyone keeps them for years anyway.
