| | Ironing/cleaning prices&services in CH
Dear EFers,
I was wondering what is to be considered a fair price for the cleaning of a shirt in ZH?
Also, when I lived in Austria, I had 2 other possibilities to solve my "laundry problem":
- a company picked up and delivered home my clothes: option a: pick up the laundry --> back washed and ironed
option b: pick up washed --> back ironed I liked the service very much, and paid for a shirt cca 5 CHf/piece, option b: 3 CHF. also, there were couple of package deals, flat monthly rates/ person etc.
Do you know a similar service in Zürich? Or another good solution?
thx,
bfp

I also asked about this recently as I had similar service in Germany whereby I dropped off clean shirts and got them back ironed, for E1.20 each. Great value. Sadly, I haven't found anything similar here but Migros will wash and iron mens' shirts for CHF3.90 a go. I was also advised to check local shop/notice boards to see if anyone is offering ironing services.

Yup in the UK we had clean shirts collected to be ironed and returned within 3 days for 1 quid each. Here it's 5chf but the guy takes a week! I need my shirts back sooner than that.

Love the sound of the UK service, although it sounds like slave labour!!

Thanks for the info guys.
I wonder why it takes for both migros and that guy a week to clean a shirt? 3 days and 5 CHF might still be acceptable for me if the shirts were collected, but a week...

Nah, with the proper equipment it takes 6 or 7 minutes to clean and hang a shirt. 10 quid an hour easy, so that's5 to the cleaner. Enough to live on in suburban London. | Quote: | | | | | Oh yes, I forgot, Migros takes that long too. Love the sound of the UK service, although it sounds like slave labour!!

Hmm sounds like a business idea for a recently made redundant person with a few franks to invest??? So 5 franks per shirt with a 3 day turn around would be acceptable then?
How many shirts would you want per week washed and ironed?
You would want pick up and collection from your place of resident/work?
Would need about 50 customers paying 25 Sfr a week for 5 shirts. That would gross 1250 Sfr a week!! Not a bad start up
Any takers??

I think more like 3 to 3.50 for ironing, 5 for wash and iron. There could be a minimum of say 5 shirts to make it worthwhile collecting and delivering. They could even say "we only collect on Mondays and deliver on Thursdays" to make the trips more worthwhile. If it's structured like that they could make a killing.

I think that a doggy day-care (something like Central Bark) is a business running a close second to (of not actually ahead of) having a pickup and delivery laundry service.

At those terms I can guarantee my custom of 7 shirts per week. | Quote: | | | | | I will look into a bit further!! Economisto, so you would interested in such a service then?

I would set up the business as follows. two companies. The first one registered in Switzerland as a collections/delivery/courier-type company. They would own the van/s and employ the collection people. The second registered in Germany just over the border employing cheaper (dare I say Eastern European) labour to iron the shirts. One would bill the other. There would be one collection day per week and one delivery day and therefore it would be economically viable to service/collect from a large swathe of Eastern Switzerland.

Good idea!!! Might try a test run in Zurich first, just to test the market!

Yes there are easy ways to do this via door to door marketing: voucher fliers etc. I would invest in this and get it off the ground but am not interested in day to day or man management as I have my hands full with this at the moment. | Quote: | | | | | Good idea!!! Well I would say to start with there would be two "travel" days per week: combined pick up and drop off. We would then have more than that, and eventually get a half-shop front as a drop off area where you can dump a sack with a label and we'll collect from there, just in case you aren't around for pick up/drop off. | Quote: | | | | | I would auggest to have an option of 2 pickup and drop off days....
