ok.. before anyone starts no I don't want to put myself into storage ( altho my wife might think it's a good idea ) but rather about 20 plastic crates , so...

does anyone know of any self storage facilities in the Geneva area? I know there is one over near Ferney ( Ornex? ) but I don't need the hassle of customs back and forth all.

I think that some removal companies have storage spaces.

Depending on how much stuff you need stored (or if you require the security of an official storage company), my girlfriend and I have some spare basement space that we could rent out, and for a much cheaper price than any other storage facility.

The only drawback IMO is that we are located about 20 mins (by train/car) outside Geneva in Gland.

For those looking for something closer to ones needs, there is a new self storage facility called Flexbox.ch that just opened near Ikea in vernier.

You rent your own unit. It's accessible 24/7. And there are no fees for changing size. Which is quite convenient, if you need to go for a smaller unit. So it's quite flexible.

PD: and also convenient, you don't have to give a 3 month departure notice, a few days and you're set...

Hello, I used secure storage in Carouge http://securstorage.ch/ and was really happy with them. The prices were OK and you can access it 24/7 with you your own key.

I've now used both Flexbox and Secur'storage and they each have their pluses and minuses....

Realize you'll pay 19 chf a month just for insurance...obligatory. Flex box let me use my own lock and I had to buy one from Secur'storage (they claim for insurance reasons).

Secur'storage has different sites (as does Flexbox)....I got one behind M-Parc and it is a bit more cumbersome than Flexbox Vernier in that you had to load your stuff on a lift just to get it to the height of the entry floor where the elevator is (but if you came with a truck it might be easier..).

I think Flexbox is a bit cheaper but I'm not sure as I haven't had time to calculate, but it is really far away for us on Rive Gauche....

Sometimes you have to make a three month deposit on smaller spaces with Secur'storage...and a deposit if you use a debit instead of credit card....not sure with Flexbox as I got a larger space and still had to make the deposit....didn't know about option of credit card then....

Anyway, there are costs that you don't calculate right away, but both places are good in a pinch...

Not very useful if you're looking for storage in Geneva,though.
