Angela - DnD's not his thing at all. Although he reckons I might like it as I like the sci-fi fantasy/adventure type books. I'll pm you... Thanks for the tip about the shop in Basel we will have to check that out.

Kevlegs - shame you're so far away, that looks very similar to our old house! We had Superman and Batman in the dining room, Wonderwoman in the bedroom along with the rest of the Justice League. And hubby's favourite pieces in the lounge - original Simon Bisley (famous for doing Lobo and Batman Judgement on Gotham) Batman pieces:

Re: Sci fi, comics, films, Batman, etc etc

While I love sci fi and will watch pretty much any film with monsters or aliens in it, no matter how bad, I draw the line at buying the toys, dolls and memorabilia. I am sometimes very tempted, but I stop myself. I keep myself happy with modern gadgets, which are now pretty sci fi, and useful (Am I getting old?).

Where are the lightsabers and tricorders?

It's the same for me - I'll get the comics or graphic novels (ha! sounds waaay better!) but have to draw the line with toys. Drains the budget quicker than a night at the Dolder...

I get the modern gadgets as well

I don't draw the line at anything that takes my fancy. I lean more toward limited edition collectables, but each to their own. I put them on display in my collection room.

No lightsabers or tricorders, too common

I have a collection of old comics and graphic novels though.

Re: Sci fi, comics, films, Batman, etc etc

I'm really enjoy sci-fi that's a good read - from the serious, philosophical (Left Hand of Darkness) through to the one's that spin a good yarn - like later Niven.

Authors I enjoy include: Asimov, Niven, Pournelle, Heinlein, Harry Harrison, Ursula Le Guin, Bob Shaw, Michael Moorcock, Frank Herbert, C. S. Lewis, Frederick Pohl, Poul Anderson.

For films, if it's a generic story just set in space, then I'm not interested. Sci-Fi films I like, while recognising the flaws of some of them are: Predator, Alien, Terminator, Blade Runner, Moon, AI.

TV Series, I only really rate Babylon 5, Doctor Who and Blakes 7.

I don't buy the toys, and am not really interested in the comics (aka Graphic Novels - though I got the Ballad of Halo Jones and Shrek for nostaligia's sake). I did get an airfix type model of Babylon 5 for my son... but then he's good at the type of thing, and I'm not. So, although I'm a sci-fi buff, I doubt I'm interested in the genre the op's husband likes.

Slowly starting to get back into comics. Dont have the patience for monthly issues. Prefer the compilations. However they do not seem to have the same smell.
