Battery disposal

Hi guys,

After having been in Switzerland for 2 years, we have accumulated quite a bag full of dead batteries. I saw adds on TV for battery bags to dispose of these, however have no idea where to get these bags from, or what to do/ where to take them once I have them.

How does one dispose of batteries here?

Thanks for you help

Re: Battery disposal

They have a place to dispose of old batteries in many stores. I usually take mine to Bau and Hobby.

6. Where should used batteries be returned to?

According to the legislation now in force, batteries are to be returned to the place of purchase or to another collection point.

8. What happens to used batteries?

Thanks to the VEG system, recycling is paid for in advance - when a consumer buys a battery. At the Batrec plant in Wimmis, substances such as ferromanganese, zinc and mercury are recovered and recycled.

Re: Battery disposal

How about phone batteries - I seem to recall that they need to be disposed of seperately?

I believe phone batteries are collected the same as other batteries. I've even brought back a laptop battery but asked first and was told it's no problem, they accepted all of them.

If it's a lead acid battery (automobile) then take it back to the place you bought the replacement, in my case that was Jumbo.

Re: Battery disposal

Not sure in Zurich, but there is a box to put old batteries (all sorts) at the large recycling place in Zug. Might be worth checking your recycling place...

As does every electronics store, i.e.: Interdiscount, Fust, MediaMarkt.
