Has anyone spare battery for their DSLR (Canon EOS)

Hey guys.

I am looking for a spare battery for my Canon DSLR. But I heard that some very cheapish "no-name" battery could bring problem that it can't be recharged or the usage indicator on camera would not be shown...

An original one is of course expensive. So I would be grateful if anyone could give me a tips on where to get a spare battery affordable for Canon 500D for example? Thanks.

I have a no-name battery that I bought last year at MediaMarkt for my 50D and itīs perfect...price something around 20€...less than half of the original price!

great to hear your positive experience. But I reckon it might still depend on the quality of the no-name battery? I read somewhere it may not be rechargable or the status not shown on camera display (apparently a trick by canon to fight piracy)...

Anyone else has any experience? I found offer up to 20 CHF on ricardo and am wondering if it is too good a deal...

I use several no-name batteries in my 5d, 7d and G9.

I'm not worried about the charge status on the menu. I just take note of when the battery status symbol on the LCD starts flashing, then I change batteries.
