Our son's 3 year old + Xbox 360 has come up with error E74 with one red light which on xbox.com advises us to take it for repair. Knowing swiss service prices : my question is anyone knows whether this will cost more than a new one ( about 279 CHF or less in UK) and if anyone knows a recommended place for such a repair. Thanks

I know that Microsoft said they would repair the red ring problems free of charge last year. You'll have to check if that is still available.

There is also a "cure". Take out the HDD and any games, wrap the unit in a towell covering all sides, turn on and leave for 15mins.
After 15mins, let it cool down and then stick the HDD back on and try a game.
I am by no way endorsing this method. It is just one of many that can be found on the web. Try at your peril.

When did you buy it?

The advice for repair with Microso.ft was spot on, turned out we had only owned it 2.5 years ( the production date on back showed we could not have owned it 3) . Luckily we had NOT registered it in UK so I registered here and it proved no problem to get all the details off web for a free repair and everything free ( except a good transit box) to send to Germany via UPS for repair.
Now waiting for return which is promised within 28 days.
Once returned I will try and get our 2 Xbox live subsricpions extended by 28 days for te time we have missed BUT that is for another day. Thanks

Xbox returned from Germany all repaired : with a free 1 month X box live Subscription : so end of this. Thanks for all the help
