I can believe that, but I'm interested in finding one or two good kebab places in towns where I live and drink. London filled that requirement admirably, Zürich has yet to do so.
I personally find the 1001 "restaurant", at Niederdorfstrasse 4, to sell quite acceptable kebabs.

Some would consider Moscow to be it's own country, so in that sense, Moscow would be more expensive from my experience.

I think it is interesting that despite of the enormous wealth of this country Switzerland has a very high suicide rate:

HI guys i feel Switzerland is very expensive am i the only one feel in this way?
do you thing Switzerland is good place for student to earn money in compared with US..?

does life in Switzerland better or US?
In terms of what you get paid here it's okay. Don't forget currencies like USD & GBP have taken some battering in the last years due to the economic woes and so it's not easy to compare without taking wages into account. Back in the day it used to be a good CHF 1.80 to $1... same with the British pound (CHF 2.4 = £1). Now 1 Swiss franc is equal to about $1 or £0.65 yet the wages haven't changed in each country.

So to answer your question, a student would be paid more here (if you convert to USD) but what that student could buy with their wages in the respective countries is probably more or less about the same.

That's exactly its point. It's a prices and earnings survey with various different measures and it has a lot to say about currency (most of the tables are currency weighted). Have a read.
Ok, thanks. I'll have a look.

It's a crap website that doesn't provide context or methodology for its top ten, so why spend any more time speculating over it?
Sure, but I'd be really curious to know how they come up with their conclusions. Only because as I said above, we have a lower standard of living here in Argentina than we did in Switzerland and my husband got a promotion! ie. we get much less for our money here than in CH.

Dont' get me wrong, you don't have to start sending food parcels just yet. lol. We live well, but not the same as in CH. I won't tell you how much a good steak costs. You'll all have a fit!

Re: Is Switzerland most expensive country in the world!

OK so, after all the discussions, here is the answer that makes sense:
http://www.ubs.com/1/e/media_overvie...?newsId=184058

and I guess it loosk at the major cities.

But....Zurich is the second most expensive city......but......the best place for purchasing power parity.

So forget what it says on the label as a price, just think of it as a % of salary and its all good. That and you get the mountains, lake, countryside and clean living for free. (ok the complaints corner will have a thing or 2 to say but...)

Re: Is Switzerland most expensive country in the world!

I don't understand why cancher1 and lost_inbroad groaned at my post:
''You can leave the country if you don't like it here that is too expensive. You can go anytime to a cheap country''.
Really, if the OP thinks Switzerland is expensive, then he/she can go to another country if he/she can't afford living here.
We all now Switzerland is expensive but nobody is keeping you with your hands tied behind your back and you can't leave this country. So deal with it or leave it!
If the OP is not able to support himself/herself here or finding difficulties in finding a job ( we know finding a job here is hard) then he can go somewhere else.
Instead of moaning on a forum that Switzerland is expensive ( if everybody will say this everyday, I think this forum will be full of subjects like this: Oh, Switzerland is so expensive''), I would be searching and applying for jobs or go to some classes or do something to help me in getting a job.

Re: Is Switzerland most expensive country in the world!

I am thoroughly sick.

I have a part-time job (until recently 2) and seriously feel that I may have to go from here to a cheaper place to live.
Being separated, my husband is kind enough to pay me Aliment money, but it seems to me that this (small) extra amount is soon taken away again by tax, health insurance etc. I even think that having 2 jobs made me worse off in the long run.

Good grief!! I have never in my life paid out bills with such big numbers on them!!
I am serious - my stomach is in knots over this.

And Switzerland may have the highest bl**dy salaries in the world, but mine is definitely not one of them!!!!!!

Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.

What is that supposed to mean? I am shocked to see Miami close to Geneva. I moved from Miami to Geneva and believe me, Geneva is way more expensive on all fronts.

The reason why I groaned you, is because there were ample similar posts as yours. The only problem is that, sometimes people have obligations that prevent them to just hop, skip and bounce and therefore, without knowing somebody's situation, I found your advice rather insolent.

That big mac index doesn't really mean anything...but we've covered that extensively in another thread last year.

Sure it does, it tells you what the market is like for greasy american food, and the corporate response to said market.

It is however an excellent way to prove the point that you can always find some statistic to say what you want, should you want to.
