Moving From Usa

Okay, I know it sounds crazy but how do I find a reliable transport service/ container? I am looking on line but I know people get ripped off by a lot of moving companies.

Is it worth moving furniture, cars, and computers from USA to Switzerland and if so, how?

I am an artist and I also have a lot of art I would have to bring along. Some I will leave in storage over here.

Any info on experience with reliable companies would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Mary ^_^

Re: Moving From Usa

What kind of artist are you? The kind that packs everything and shippes it or the kind who creates it?

Re: Moving From Usa

If you value your goods don't use these people.
My bike was smashed inside the crate it was in, ..
My heavy duty toolbox was destroyed and rusted, ...
All ALL my cardboard boxes were damaged from wet, and crushed.
Luckily the insurance covered the bike, but everything else, they claimed it was poor packing since I did it myself.. @#¦/&ç(/%/% Bullshit.
They could never explain the wet and the rust though.

Re: Moving From Usa

I would use a Swiss company, not a US-based one. Makes dealing with them easier when stuff is late / missing / broken once you get here.

Some names:
  • Interdean Interconex
  • Crown Relocations
  • Welti-Furrer AG
  • Gondrand AG
  • Weber-Vonesch AG
  • Möbel-Transport AG
Google will yield their Web sites and contact info.

Re: Moving From Usa

OK, REALLY REALLY! Pay attention to what I am about to tell you.
I moved from Boston to Zurich not even 3 months ago. Be really carefull when choosing.
I am going to give you a website that will help you decide. Take your time, read it. http://www.movingscam.com/
Be sure you are not getting a "middle man", get the measurement in kgs or agree to a price. If you get a quote that it is to low (compared to other moving companies) then it is
I was quoted 2600 dls to move here. Everything was fine and dandy until I arrived to zurich, they asked to pay 2800 dls more because I put more, so I decided to say yeah, ok, I want my stuff back.
2 weeks passed I received another invoice for 3600 dls MORE! by now I was mad, broke and I felt like they had kidnaped my stuff for a big randsom.
I dont know where you are moving from. But take your time and do your homework man. In the US MOVING SCAMERS are a norm! sad, but true.
If you have found a company, on this website you can see if it redflaged.
Let me know if you have any questions

Re: Moving From Usa

PCDesigns, tomcat, christian macek and MAR25: THANK YOU! I didn't even think about hiring someone from Switzerland!

swissbob: David and I were planning on moving to Switzerland next year to be near his parents...plus we're kind of bummed 'bout the US health care system, political situation and all that stuff. We are both peaceful open minded artists and my trip to Switzerland brought only warm, kind, open and loving people my way (a lot of them did ask 'bout Bush and when I rolled my eyes and said talk to the hand they all laughed). David's father passed away in June and knowing we were gonna move in 2008, he decided to leave us his chalet.
David's mom is still there so are many friends, the quality of living is higher and I really loved it....oh and on a side note, the comic book stores in both St. Gallen and Zuerich want us to do a book signings...we have six books coming out! FUN!
