Safety in Lausanne

I shall be moving to Lausanne come February and have been told that the city is relatively safe (apart from incidences of bag snatching and pick pocketing- a pattern also seen in three UK towns where I lived before). I will be based in the EPFL-UNIL campus and though my accommodation hasn't yet been sorted, I guess that I will probably walk to work and back (for I tend to work late) if the distance is less than 3-4 miles.
However, are the streets usually safe after 12 a.m. and are there any neighbourhoods to avoid?

Re: Safety in Lausanne

I'm sure you'll be fine. Here's a thread which discussed the same question:
Is Lausanne safe?

Re: Safety in Lausanne

There's been a number of incidents in the last year or so in parc Montbenon in the press. Other than that, it is generally safe, but take normal precautions as you would in any city.
