International Shipping from CH

I am very sure this subject has already been discussed, but for the life of me I can not find it. I apologize for my forum searching disability.

I need to send a small box to the US. It weighs less than a kilo and size wise is about 30x20x11cm. I thought, "easy enough - I'll pack it up, set up a shipment with UPS and they'll come get it." Wrong.

All the rates are over chf186!! What the?! So I decided to look at FedEx - worse!

If I send it by Swiss Post economy as a package it's still going to cost me chf45.

However, I saw on the website that because the dimensions in total do not exceed 90cm and it weighs less than 2 kilos, I can send it as a letter (for less than chf32) even though it's a box. Is this right?? Has anyone else here done this?

Re: International Shipping from CH

The past threads said the Swiss Post is the cheapest, sometimes letter post is cheaper than packet post,

Yes, that is the same webpage I saw the information on. It just seems odd to me that one can send a box as a letter... But considering the cost difference I think I will just accept that oddity!

Yes, you can send it as a letter (it's called Maxi Letter). Registered or not. Thickness limit of 2.5cm applies only to domestic letters.
