I can never seem to get a bedroom set and mattress to expire at the same time! Have about a ten year old mattress with a rather useless US warranty over here that is wearing out, but I've got a very nice queen size bedroom set and box spring. Was wondering if anyone knew of any places in Switzerland or perhaps Germany that sell American style mattresses? The other possibility would be to see if I can get my nice headboard and foot board converted somehow to fit the Swiss style (slats with no box). FYI US queen = 60'' x 80'' (152 x 203 cm), I believe the comparable European size is 160 x 200 cm. Any thoughts appreciated!

I'm not sure how UK sizes compare to european but I have a US sleigh bed frame and moved over 17 years ago with a US queen boxspring and mattress. I couldn't find an equivalent replacement for the boxspring (well I believe Harrod's used to make them to order but I'm sure at a cost!!) but I got the UK 'king' mattress which is virtually the same size and fits fine on top of my Queen boxspring. And my queen fitted sheets are fine as well. A few cm either way don't seem to make a difference.

I find the mattresses here much more comfortable than the ones in the U.S.

Don't be silly. Have you never slept on a Westin Heavenly Bed? We shipped over three. You will go into a coma at night, I promise. The Swiss guys who moved our stuff out of the container and up into the apartment couldn't stop touching/stroking/poking our mattresses.

I prefer the US mattresses as well, and I shipped on over here.

Hi there! Not sure if your bed frame has enough clearance to allow, but you can probably just put a Swiss/Euro mattress set on the frame. It's only a few cm difference. Shouldn't be a problem unless the frame is somehow restrictive.

One idea would be to buy a mattress from a shop that has a return policy and delivery, have them deliver and install, and if it doesn't fit right there and then just ask the delivery men to take it back.

Perhaps I'm silly just like the other writer, but I brought an expensive King size bed and mattress with me from the US. Yes, the removal people also thought it was wonderful (to look at and touch), but they don't have to sleep in it.
Perhaps I just prefer the firmer European beds (just like I prefer the firmer seats in European cars).
