Strange police car behaviour???

I was driving on the motorway. A police car came up from behind with lights flashing but no siren. There was another car behind me before the police car. We both passed the 2 trucks in the right lane and moved over. The police car raced ahead and then straddled both lanes and slowed the traffic down.

I thought they were going to pull me over and I was trying to think what I had done wrong. But I hadn't been speeding and I was already mostly past the trucks when they came near (there were other cars behind that had to pull in the right lane).

They slowed us down for about 2kms and then drove off without lights. Didn't pull anyone over. Do you think this was some sort of training run? Or were they warning us about doing something wrong? Anyone else had this sort of experience? Gave me a bit of a jolt!

a rolling road block, probably so some police further up the road could clear somthing off the motorway

Re: Strange police car behaviour???

They might have been slowing traffic down due to some incident going on further down the motorway. Unless you took the number of the car and ask the police directly, you'll never really know what happened.

I also thought that it reminded me of something i watched on T.V police cars stopped the traffic on the motorway to let a mummy duck, and her babies cross the road

Duh! Should have thought of that. (Funny how when you're not in your home country you automatically assume it's your fault.)

Re: Strange police car behaviour???

Most likely it was to hold back traffic for the security of some diplomatic convoy up the way, particularly to or from the airport.

You will never know....

Re: Strange police car behaviour???

Are traffic cops serious?

Usual Sunday morning we were driving on E60 with wify to church in Dübendorf round about 11h00. The traffic was moving smoothly until out of the blue there is a sudden cars pile-up, so I slammed on the brakes giving my brake pads a nice wear. The other drivers in adjacent lanes including myself were trying to guess the cause of this confusion and they started pulling off to the right lane. Few minutes later a traffic cop's big Bimmer emerged on the horizon with stopped guy just in the middle of the traffic flow. Then the policeman pulled to the emergency lane and a bulky cop with crewcut no 1 who projected wide grin on his face was frowning at other cars like it is normal to stop anyone and anywhere as he pleased.
