| | Website similar to EnglishForum
Hello,
Today, I spent sometimes for searching a website similar to EnglishForum.ch but in francais.
I was quite suprise that there is no forum french website specific to Swiss Life as englishforum.
Am I wrong ? If you have heard any name pls tell me.
EnglishForum is a big success, I believes that there must be somebody try to imitate it in French and even in Italian. But I cannot found any one. It makes me curious.
Thanks
Ball

Ball | | | | | I don't see why there should be. It stands to reason the Swiss locals are unlikely to need a site like this since it's primarily niche - finding out about the country, finding similar people and comparing home with Switzerland. English is the common international language, so for both of these reasons, a site like this would only ever be in English.

If you move to Switzerland and already speak one of the national languages fluently, that's a huge leg up and you probably won't need a forum like this one to get you started. If you speak and write the local language you can google just about anything you want to know... or you can read the newspaper, ask the neighbors, get a book out of the library...
Of course it might still be a nice thing to have for the social possibilities - but anyway, that's my theory on why one doesn't exist: because there is not quite the same kind of need for it.

I think the admins should install a language button to turn all the posters to French, Spanish or Italian. It would come in handy when planning a vacation to some of those places.
In Italian, your name would be something like Agile Sfera.

Ball | | | | | Perhaps, un jour, in the very far futur, the EF will have a French/German/Italian section ... that would be something of a miracle though ... but the time isn't ripe for that, yet.

Not the first time this was asked. The thread below highlights several alternatives: Spanish or Latin-American forums of expats in Switzerland? |

EditorBob! If you are listening....
I would be GREAT to see an englishforum.fr, englishforum.it, englishforum.es, etc.
It would be a great resource when traveling around.
Technically, you just need to clone the server, and reset the databases. Then, of course, find local mods.

They have several international Forums in their portfolio. Each Forum has it's own style, member chemistry etc. so it's unlikely we could get the same - beautiful - vibe. But I guess all Forums think this way | This user would like to thank Uncle Max for this useful post: | |

We just need specific websites for activities, because it one of the best way to organise stuff with other people.

There's a francophone forum for those living in the Zurich area: www.jeudis.ch.
It's more of a social forum - they organise parties on Thursday evenings, at least once a month - but there's a mini-forum/discussion section there as well. You'll need to register to have access to it.
None of these are comparable to the EF, but there's also a forum associated with the Expat-blog Suisse page, with info on specific Swiss cities, and a forum primarily targeted to parents, but where one can also find information on daily life/insurances, etc: www.bebe.ch. I don't have kids, but I tend to go there when I'm looking for information in French.

Try using the Chrome browser as it has a built in translation facility
