L Permit - unemployment benefits?

If you're here on an L Permit and you've been here for over 12 months (it was renewed for another 12 months) and your job is made redundant, can you claim unemployment benefits? Reason I ask is that it appears that AVL- Beitrage has been deducted from salary. (And I thought L-Permit holders were ineligible for unemployment benefits.)

We're leaving CH and our nanny/housekeeper is hoping to stay but does not yet have another job.

Re: L Permit - unemployment benefits?

As far as I know, as long as you've been working (and therefore paying AHV) for more than 6 months in CH you are eligible for unemployment benefits. But then again, I may be wrong so it would be great if someone else could confirm it

You won't get unemployment benefits if you leave Switzerland.

Yes, I'm talking about the nanny/housekeeper not us.

Re: L Permit - unemployment benefits?

It seems she does get unemployment benefits. She went to the RAV office today and they took her details and gave her forms to fill out, and said she would get it.

(Once she fills in the forms she has to go to some sort of one day seminar....but she was told she MUST take someone who can translate German with her.)

You are in a German speaking country. You shouldn't complain about that one.

Re: L Permit - unemployment benefits?

No....she's not complaining....but it's going to be difficult to find someone with a day spare, who's prepared to spend it translating...and it's not like she can afford to pay someone...but then again if she gets the benefits perhaps it's worth it.

She just has to go, listen to them explain the system to her and sign a paper that she was there. They will then give her a little book that tells her everything they just said. She can then read the book and/or get someone to help her read the book.

If I were her, I'd go with the translator then if it was a problem she could to again with the translator.
