I've looked through the forums and read a lot online but can't find the answer to our rather specific situation. Maybe someone can help?

I am a non-EU citizen residing in Zurich and hold a restrictive B permit (renewed every year) and my Work permit lists the name of my employer.

My B permit card does not list the name of my employer and has the following specified on the front: "Aufenthaltbewilligung (B) mit Erwerbstätigkeit"

The following is specified on the back: "Selbst. Erwerbstätigkeit ist bewilligungspflichtig"

My wife (also from non EU) holds a dependent B permit and is employed.

Questions:

1. If I, the main B-Permit holder want to study for one year in Switzerland (which means I quit my current job), is it possible for the Dependent Permit holder to assume the role of the main Permit holder and vice versa?

2. Both of us want to stay and work here after that period. After I finish my studies, could I be employed again in Switzerland ?

3. If answer to 1 and 2 is yes, then after gaining the employment, does my dependent permit be again changed to employed? In that case, will it be again restrictive to the new employer? Will we have to start again with L permit or will we be able to continue with B permit.

Please do ask for any missing information which may be useful.

All non-EU permits are renewed every year. Annual renewal does not make it restictive.

Sounds like a non-resticted permit to me.

The answers to your questions are all positive if the permit is not tied to your employer. If it is, then the answers are negative.

I checked my Work Permit and it does mention my current employer in the 'Stellenantritt' section and the 'Geht an' section

Does this mean its a restrictive permit ?

Also, should I enquire at the Kreisburo if I like to obtain the official response from the state ?

We are in a similar situation, and I'm wondering what you uncovered. In our case, one of us holds the B-Permit (tied to employer), while the other has also found employment. The one who holds the permit is considering leaving the employer, so we would like to 'transfer' the permit so the other holds the status instead. We are both non-EU. Any idea if this is possible?

All very confusing, and hoping you had some luck.
